Purpose, Mission & Vision

The Christian Police Association was formed in 1883 by Catherine Gurney OBE, who also helped set up Police Convalescent Homes and Orphanages around the UK.

It aims to encourage and support Christian Police Officers and Support Staff in their work and witness, and is interdenominational. It does not seek to be a substitute for a church, or a staff association but to complement them.

There are branches in the majority of Police Forces throughout the UK, and there are links with similar Christian Police fellowships around the world. The Headquarters for CPA UK is in Bedford.

There is no obligation to attend meetings, nor is there a membership fee. The CPA is a registered charity and relies on voluntary giving. We are open to all ranks and Support Staff grades, and are well represented at each level.

The CPA has a defined Purpose, Mission and Vision with Strategies to reach these goals.

A National Council of CPA meets quarterly to develop these Strategies.

We usually meet as a Branch every two or three months, in a variety of forums, to provide opportunity for fellowship and support.

Our Branch newsletter is published every three months.

The Leicestershire Branch of the CPA also assists in the relationship between Leicestershire Constabulary and the Christian community in Leicestershire, assists with recruitment, retention and progression of Christian Police Staff, and is part of the Leicestershire Constabulary Equality Board. The Branch can offer support in Grievance and Discipline matters, and promotes the Equality Support Scheme.
