The Regents

The Regents were mainly made up of Damian Pew and Martin Sheller and they wrote most of the music together. They also played all the instruments, taking turns on the drums, but it was mainly Martin. Damian's main intrument was the keyboard, but was quite at home on bass. Martin was a sax player and played lead guitar. Kath Best and Bic Brack contributed to several songs and provided the backing vocals.

7-teen was their first single and reached 11 in the charts over the Christmas period 79/80. Andrew Miller played some guitar fills on the single. They appeared on TOTP three times and this is a compliation of their appearances shown on TOP2 that I've had up on Youtube for a while.

Each time they appeared, so did the Nolan Sisters - every single time. They also always sang live.

After their first recording, they went back to Richard's house, their manager, to watch the show. Annie Lennox was also there as The Tourists were appearing for the first time too. She didn't understand why Martin and Damian were falling about laughing at themselves.

Another interesting fact is that Damian persuaded Marrianne Faithfull to wear a 17 badge as seen here. He hand made the badges himself.

See You Later (which personally, I prefer) only got to number 55. Their appearances were cancelled due to a strike at the BBC, but they did appear on Cheggers Plays Pop.

This is a bit of the video that they made with a couple of shots of the 'Making of it' to pad it out for the full length. I'm going to have to re-edit this and get a better sound track on it.

The band released another couple of singles, which didn't make a dent in the charts before finally breaking up. Bic and Martin got married, had a couple of children and carried on in the music business. Damian went on tour with The Young Ones before giving up. Not sure what happened to Kath.

Martin, sadly, died in 1999 and is sorely missed.

Someone made a Bollywood version of 7-teen, which I think is quite fun.
