We have had another well-planned event south of York on Saturday courtesy of Mandy Faint. It had been re-arranged from 2 weeks ago when the destructive wind would have made riding very dangerous and unpleasant. There aren’t many mountains in the Wheldrake area but 61 riders worked hard in beautiful, calm weather to score points with the leading riders covering 50km.

Here are the category winners’ routes:

A Andy Conn 361 18 23 2 12 19 11 21 29 10 5 22 17 15 30 16 14 27 9 8 20 1

B Karen Blackburn 220 1 20 8 24 13 25 23 2 12 19 18 3 28

C John Rawden 327 7 28 3 25 18 23 2 12 19 11 21 29 10 5 22 27 9 8 20 1

E Steve Willis 288 1 20 8 24 9 27 17 22 5 10 29 21 11 19 12 2 23

If you want a copy of the map and clues please send an SAE. You could try to beat these scores and then have a welcome drink at the Jefferson Arms afterwards

Nick Jones and Ceri Williams have planned and organised the final event at Norwood in the Washburn valley west of Harrogate on February 5th. Please send an email if you want to reserve a map.

It will soon be time to get back into the league events which have changed slightly this year. The first event is based at Knayton village hall, between Thirsk and Osmotherley.

There will 11 events in the league with your best 6 scores to count. There will be five traditional 2-hour forest events plus four 3-hour bridleway events and a 2-day Mountain Bike Marathon in the Yorkshire Dales in September. Thanks to everyone who has offered to plan one of these events.

Jens Strain will not only be drawing all of the maps but has invested in an A3 colour laser printer so no more dodgy photocopies!! The cost will still be the same at £8 for Seniors (except in September) with reductions for TCA, Ebor and Clok members, Juniors and riders with their own SI cards.

Sue Adams has offered to process the entries this year so please send them to her instead of me!

The September event will be organised on similar lines to the Summer Polaris with a central campsite, bar and entertainment, plus riding in superb countryside (for half the price of the Polaris).

All events are suitable for all ages and abilities and prizes will be awarded at the end of the season to age category winners. York Cycleworks, Westbrook Cycles and Karbitz have sponsored the league and I hope to get a separate sponsor for the September event. There will also be a series of 3 summer evening treasure hunts starting in May.

Many of our regular riders will be competing in the National TCA series in different categories. Andy Conn, Karen Blackburn, Jon Meeks, Amanda Bates and I will all be trying to retain our National titles from 2004 while Jim & Lucy Imber will be trying to go one better this year.

I hope to see you in at least one of our events this year.
