Thanks to everyone who still turned up and rode. There weren't as many entries each day as usual but that is hardly surprising. (Ebor still made a small profit over the weekend!) There was plenty of mud in the forest but everyone still seemed to enjoy the riding and nobody was heard to complain.

Thanks to the planners who worked hard to prepare the courses. They were all putting out controls then collecting them in again while we were riding - and they all competed in at least one other event during the weekend. Thanks to Jens for drawing superb maps. My photocopier doesn't really do justice to the standard of his artwork. Thanks to all the helpers who worked so hard all weekend with cheerful spirits and still found time to ride as well. Thanks finally to the Forestry Commission for letting us use the forest (for only £1 per day), Mr Barrett for the use of his field and Bykbitz of Boroughbridge for providing the prizes (and maintaining my bike!)

The MTBO event was interesting. It certainly caused plenty of riders extra pressure. You couldn't opt out of any controls so it was perhaps a bit too long for the less fit competitors but Andy Conn managed to beat Steve Heading by 2 minutes finishing in 72 minutes for the 18k course.

The sun shone for a while during the Spanish Score and the event worked well with Steve beating Andy by 6 seconds to visit all 20 controls. 7 riders cleaned up including super vet Dave Evans - who then went back out to collect controls for another hour.

Fortunately the weather improved by the time 39 night-riders started - although we had to wait an extra 15 minutes for it to get dark enough. Steve managed to gain 4 points on Andy with Andy Simpson coming between them.

The promise of a fine morning was swept away in a heavy shower as the MTB competitors set out on their first lap. 3 times round a 5k lap in an hour taxed even Steve and both Andy's - with Steve Heading gaining a good lead over Andy Conn.

The largest number of starters all weekend had a much more pleasant day to compete in the typical Ebor MBO event in Cropton Forest. There were plenty of new tracks to be used west of the forest - and plenty of well-known wallows to avoid in the middle. Andy Conn won fairly comfortably but could still only finish second overall - 1 point down after 5 events to the overall winner - Steve Heading - with Andy Simpson in third place. Good training for the world MBO championships in October. Surely they will get better weather!

30 riders competed in all 5 events. Congratulations to the category winners and a special mention to Lucy Imber who won the Youth event and Jess Appleton (aged 9) who dragged Frank round all weekend! The results from both afternoon events have been added to the North Yorkshire MBO league.

There was one item of lost property - an overshoe. I have washed it so if the owner gets in touch I can return it!

My computer has crashed so I won't be replying to any emails for a while. The gear box in my car has also got a virus so it looks like I can't take the caravan to Blakey Rigg so I will have to camp - on the ground at my age!

The next league event is at Dalby Forest on Sunday 29th August but it starts at 2.30 because it is part of the White Rose orienteering weekend. If you are entering by email please include your TCA and SI card numbers.
