Chances are you’ll probably have one of these already, but if you are currently using an alternative, it’s time to ditch it and trade up (or down) to one of these. Particularly if you have one of those horrible unstable devices attached to the top of a gas bottle. In years to come this will be seen as a design classic. All the previous problems with camping stoves have been swept aside in one fell stroke with this inexpensive bit of kit. I accept that they are very cheaply made, but they seem to have a design life of about seven years and if you apply the pound a go rule, you will come out comfortably ahead. You’ll find that there appear to be several hundred different brands available, but the only differences are in the stickers.

There’s really only one tip I can give you with this tool and that is this; if you leave the stove outside overnight, remove the gas bottle and put it somewhere warmer because the pressure in the can will drop enough to make the stove more reluctant than a camper with a hangover to do anything the following morning.
