The
historic village of Warkworth.
The dramatic ruins of the castle dominate the
pretty village whose main street is lined with Georgian and
Victorian houses. There is a village shop/post office, gift
shops, galleries and coffee shops. Restaurants and pubs to
suit all tastes.
The
castle was the main home of the Percy family until the 16th
century.
Shakespeare set three of his scenes from Henry IV here.
The 14th century old stone bridge carried all traffic over the river Coquet for
almost 600 years. The views have changed little since the middle ages.
Warkworth Dunes beach, half mile from the Warkworth, is a classic
Northumberland beach, gently shelving with soft sand above a high waterline,
sheltered by sand dunes. It has a car park and picnic area.
Alnwick,
historic market town.
Alnwick Castle is familiar from its appearance
as Hogwarts School in Harry Potter films. Alnwick's stunning landscaped
gardens feature an impressive tree house restaurant, a labyrinth and
wonderful water cascade.
Druridge
Bay has birdwatching and a woodland
trail. Its miles of golden sand make it home to many wind assisted
sports.
The Shieling is within touring distance
of Hadrians Wall, Holy Island, Bamburgh, the Farne Islands,
the Cheviots, Northumberland National Park and Kielder Water.
There is s much to see and do in these ares of outstanding
natural beauty that you will find one week is just not enough.
Other Things
to Do and See.
Apart from walking, cycling and horse riding, the area offers numerous
other recreational activities. Golfers will find many excellent courses
nearby, anglers are served by well stocked rivers and lakes and water
sports are well catered for. Daily markets sell a wide vvariety of
