How to set the moulted skin (exuvium)

This is a question I am frequently asked, how can I keep the moult / exuvium when my tarantula moults? The photos below show how I set the moulted skin.

I like to set the moulted skins onto pieces of bark for a more natural look, however anything can be used like, polystyreneor a piece of wood, once the skin has been set, it can be placed in a deep display frame, it can the be wall mounted, or placed on a desk at work. I have one on my desk at work, and it really does attract a lot of attention. I now have a waiting list at work me to supply coleagues with a set skin. some moults work better than others, the most difficult part is trying to make the rump look realistic, especially when the moult was not removed from the spider quick enough, and the spider decides to destroy the the rump as happened in this case

step 1. place the skin onto the desired background, move it around to try and get the best view.

Using glue, stick the tips of the feet down to the desired location

A few dots of glue ready to locate the carapace back into position.

locate the carapace so the are no gaps or overhang at the edges.

Becareful when sticking the carapace down, itis very brittle and will break easily

The photo below shows the finished job. It is recommended to put it in some kind of see through

enclosed frame as if left, it will not be long before the dust starts to gather.
