1800 to 1832Children of 7 years and upwards working 12 hours per day, 6 days per week.
1833 to 1843Children over 8 working 9 hours per day, and when not working to be educated.
1844 to 1870Children under 13 to work 6½ hours per day and attend school 2 to 3½ hours per day.
1870Provision of schools sufficient for all children made compulsory.
1874Children under 10 debarred from factories.
1876Attendance at school made compulsory.
1891Children under 12 debarred from factories, and education made free.
1903All children from 5 to 12 to attend school.
1926All children from 5 to 14 to attend school, full time. Many continue at school till 18.
