The Sports Club is the premier organisation for games and sports in the district,
and on its magnificent field or fields, Cricket by the town team; Association
Football ; Rugby Football; Athletics ; Hockey ; and Tennis are well catered for.
The Bury Football Club is also well-known for its truly excellent ground, at Gigg
Lane. The team is a member of the English League (First Division) and has won many
honours in the football world, including the English Cup (twice) in 1899-1900 and 1902-3
