Yateley Junior Singers Closes
YJS sang its last on 11th May 2002 at the Aldershot Festival but won its class in the competition.
Mrs Carpenter, the Musical Director of YJS, is currently working for the Hampshire Music Service in a number of local schools.
If you are interested in running a joint concert with a junior choir you can still email Mrs Carpenter since she now runs the North East Hampshire Young Singers for the Hampshire Music Service.
Yateley Junior Singers was started in 1996 as an opportunity for children between the ages of 7 and 11in the Yateley area of Hampshire to sing in a choir which was independent from any school. The emphasis was on singing for enjoyment. No auditions were required.
The Yateley Junior Singers had several concerts each year and achieved a high standard of choral singing. They competed in the Aldershot Festival and the Music For Youth regional festival and their performances were highly commended. They took part in many concerts with other choirs and bands. The majority of these joint concerts were with local organisations but in April 1999 a joint concert was held with the Tucson Girls Chorus from Arizona. As a result, the choir became an important part of the musical life of Yateley.
