Choir Organiser and Conductor: Jean Carpenter
After completing her teacher training, Jean worked in London and joined the London Symphony Chorus, singing mainly at the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall, where she particularly enjoyed the Promenade Concerts. Whilst in the chorus, Jean worked with such conductors as Andre Previn, Sir Colin Davis, and Richard Hickox. Jean also sang with a small choir in London, the Exultate Singers, with whom she made a number of recordings. After moving to Yateley, Jean sang with the Reading Phoenix Choir for three years, touring Germany and the Czech Republic in 1992.
Jean now works for the Hampshire Music Service, teaching classroom music, violin and directing the North East Hampshire Young Singers (NEHYS, pronounced Knee Highs), a choir for children aged 8-13.
In previous years, Jean has taught in Westfields Junior School, Westfields Infant School, North Farnborough Infant School, Crookham Infant School and also in several other local schools .
A highlight in 2001 was conducting the Westfield Infant School choir in the national final of the Music For Youth competition at the Royal Festival Hall.
