| "New homes approved for former school site in Sutherland
Grove Plans for 71 homes on the former Wandsworth Boys School site in
Sutherland Grove, Southfields have been approved by councillors. The
residential development will be on the northern part of the site. A new
Church of England secondary school, St Cecilia's, is set to open on the
southern part of the site in September 2003. The original 1920s school
building will be converted to provide 29 flats. A further 18 affordable
homes will be built in the north-east corner of the site. These will be
transferred on completion to a housing association and offered to local
people on the council's waiting lists. The remainder of the development
will comprise 24 two, three and four-bedroom houses. These include six
pairs of semi-detached properties of a similar scale to those in
Sutherland Grove and two pairs of Arts and Crafts style houses marking the
entrance to the development. A further eight mews houses will be built in
the north-west corner of the site. Proceeds from the sale of the land have
helped to meet the council's share of the £12.4 million construction costs
for the new school. The planning applications committee considered the
scheme at its meeting on April 16. A final go ahead is awaited from the
Government Office for London which could still decide to hold a public
inquiry." Wandsworth Council Press releases |
