Message: Hi All December 2000 we had a reunion comprising Tony Savage, Sheldon Whitesman, Jim Edwell, Ron White and yours truly. We meet again on 6 December 2001 in the front lounge of the Reubens Hotel, Buckingham Palace Road at 6.30pm for endless talk about old times and a chinese meal. Any of our contemporaries are very welcome to join us if you can make it. Nice to see familiar names - John Davies who I used to play centre, fly half, or full back with, and Graham Shields who I propped with for the OW's (Graham was an excellent hooker!). Regards Peter

Message: I was at the school from 1943 till 1948. During this period, because of the war, spent 18 months evacuated to Woking. Little Firs & Firlands. Memories of Mr Philliemore getting pupils to help him to get his shoes on!!! My main sport was cricket playing with the 1st XI. Roy Domney as opening fast bowler & Roy?? Gage & myself as opening batsmen. Good to see from the site photo's of a few of the past staff. French for me was a nightmare with Mr Ascher. Luckily for me that Frank White would do my homework for me before school started in the morning. On leaving school worked in a drawing office by Redifon Flight Simulators in Wandsworth, then moved with the Co. to Crawley. Played cricket until 1973 for Three Bridges CC & in the period was organiser & coach for the youth. Moved to Holland & worked as a pro. Cricket coach for 12 years untill ill health forced me to stop. Now retired & spend most of my time at my computer flying around the world, back to Flight Simulators. Would be very pleased to hear from any other former pupils of my time period. Dennis Brigden (Cromwell B)

Message: Jim, this is good stuff you're doing here. Glad you could use my photos which should bring back a few memories for everyone. One of the workmen let me walk around the site but he wouldn't let me inside the buildings. It seems the floors are unsafe due to years of neglect and vandalism. Shame 'cos I was dying to get a look in there and take a few shots, particularly of our old Form 1 classroom which isn't shown in any of these images. It would be great to hear from anyone who was in the 1960-67 group particularly those who started in Form 1 or 1 Gamma.

Message: I was at the school from 1950-1958 - set Morley C, originally with "Sammy" Cowan(Room R) and then Dick Haggard(Room C). I loved every minute of my time at Wandsworth and the teachers were great: even Joe Ascher("Don't you know the rule, boy?") became quite pleasant if you took French as an Option subject. Thanks to Roger Eales for the latest photos of the old place, they reminded me of how things were before the erection of the comp. monstrosity on the playing fields. If memory serves me correctly, and I still remember our 1st Year group being summoned to the hall to be taught it by Mr Aubrey, the school war cry went something like; KAMAHTE-GE, KAMAHTE-GE, KAMAHTE, KAMAHTE, KIARI, KIARI-WAH, L,P,O,R,S,T,Z, WANDSWORTH!! Best wishes to all OWs

I remember some of the teachers listed. Can't remember the name of my Set Master (also the art master) - Cromwell B. Noticed one pupil Jan Kawminski - wasn't he in the fencing team? Who remembers the War Cry - I never did quite understand it (Sounded like: Ke Mar Chee Chee, Ke Mar Chee Chee. Ke Mar Chee, Ke Mar Chee, and then the letters of the optician's board).

Message: The 1975 football team was fantastic. We went through the whole season winning every game. The nearest we came to losing was a 2-1 victory in the cup final against Spencer Park. We beat Southfields 14-1. I can only remember eight of the team members names. They are; Steve Clark, Abdul Malik, Stephen Young, Kiran Parsons, Malcolm Smith, Leroy Johnson, Bunmi Phillips and myself. Can anyone help me out with the other names.

The years 1962 until 1968 in particular. The only names that I can remember from my forms(at the moment) are John Gerrish, Tony & Dave Pell (twins), Doug Parnham, Paul Barrett (my cousin), Barry Rickman, Bob Nall, Tim Bickell, Paul Lipscombe, David Hawthorne(deceased). The form masters were John Boulton 1Iota, Mr.Saunders 1,2, & 3 Sigma, Set Master (King)Mr.Machin for 3 years,& Forms 4C1,5C1, & Lower6C. Mr.Machin was a miserable sod. He was so upset when the Housemaster made me a prefect without his recommendation. Happy Days!

Message: Hi all, I attended from 1956 (old Elliot school initially) and then moved to the new school (I guess in 1957). I left in 1961 at the tender age of 16 to start an engineering apprenticeship.. I have become a bit of a collector for the "Goon Shows". I would be willing and happy to swap tapes (cassettes) for equal number of recordings. Anyone interested please contact me at my e-mail address. I am also interested in VCR recordings of Some Mothers Do 'Ave "em Dick Emery Show Steptoe and Son. I think I enjoyed my time at Wandsworth School and certainly look back with fond memories. As you all know, life can be pretty hard and I have had my share. Yes, Wandsworth certainly has a positive response when the old memory starts to play funny tricks. Would be interested in hearing from those who were in my year. Best wishes to you all. John Wood.

Message: Was there between 1962 - 67. in 1,2, Theta, 3iota and 4C1. Knocked around with Mark Hull. Scriven twins were in my class - had good fights with them! Sad to see the demise of the school John Vockings took me 'under his wing' in the fourth year and I excelled in the end year exams that year but it didn't last due to difficult home circumstances at that time and I had to leave earlier than wanted. I kept in touch with John for a while. He became head of English and I thought he would go on to greater things. Alas I lost touch but always wondered from time to time what became of him. Then shock of shocks. I was reading my son's school letter for the new year and it listed the new teachers, in amongst was a J Vockings! After 34 years!! I thought surely its not him but it is and we are about to arrange to go for a beer or two.

From 1 NU in 1963 through to the sixth form where I spent too much time drinking coffee at Dave Wilkinson's house (didn't anyone notice how we all disappeared after registration)? There were several of us; Eric Wisby, Chris Ferriday, Alan Bush,..... I also travelled to school by train with people like David Auker and Chris Tingley. Does anyone else remember us participating in making the Nuffield Chemistry film with Mr Garwood. I also vividly remember setting fire to our farts in Mr Pett's (f)Art lessons.

Message: I was in the area last weekend and went to look at what was left of the old place. All the newer buildings have all been demolished now leaving just the old building which used to house the lower school. It looks as if the land is going to be sold and maybe the St. Cecilias new school will be housed in the lower school building. Must confess when I saw the state of the site I thought Mr. Citeroni must have performed one too many laboratory explosions. Good to see the site taking off, I have resumed contact with many old friends through this site and friends reunited. It is good to hear how everyone has got on.

I am still in touch with Jeff Curtiss, Alan Bartlet, Graham Parish(just!). Who remembers Biff Harrison the Chemistry teacher?he now plays the phono-fiddle with a band called "Bill posters will be banned" and can be seen on the odd (very odd) Sunday at the Bull's Head in Barnes (so I believe).

I am still in contact with Roy Summers and Roger Brereton (1963-70)and we still bore each other to death with the old stories. Do my classmates remember that famous chemistry lesson when we were all in the lab ( Old school First floor opposite Form 1 Classroom) before the teacher arrived and someone ( Probably Wilson or Wiley) blocked up the sink and turned on the taps. We all ran out en-mass, locked the door and duly lined up waiting for the teacher to arrive. Quite a flood that day! Great memories. Well done for all the contributions (Great reading!) and my regards to anyone who still remembers me.

Message: Phew..... So someone finally hung the 10 green bottles on the old school. He he he. What bitter sweet memories. Most things seem to have been said already. Memories: Initial fear of the wall. "Hey you, BOY!" 3rd year sixth pupils, couple of them lousy students who were good at rugby, so they were alowed to stay on! Roger Mansfield showing us a wooden model of a computer (it worked too!). A good teacher. John Vockings trying to convince me to stay on and attempting to get me into the 'Young Shakespear Theater' group. (I was too young. LOL). Also a good teacher. Parties after the last night of the school (and house) plays. Mr. Mrzowsski repeatedly asking me my name in the dinner queue until finally I pronounced it correctly (the Polish way). "Be proud of your heritage, lad!" Not a bad guy really. Seemed to like me. Maybe for my Polish dad. Paul Holford chsing me around to beat me up for nicking his girlfriend. (I really didn't, but would have liked to, mate!) Peter Griffiths, the maths wizard..... often caused havock in class, especially when he proved to the maths master that 1 + 1 did not always make 2. LOL Thanx to Bob Knight's mum for the lovely sandwiches he often shared with me. Thanx to Gary Hastings for taking me to my first Jimi Hendrix concert. (Remember when we met him at middle earth club in Covent Garden, Gary? I met Eric Clapton, The Beatles and the Stones too, amoung others). Defending my 'little' brother (Terry, RIP) when Albert Beasley wanted to stab him.(His older brother was a mate of my older brother, Andy) ------------ Went from Form 1, 2, 3 gamma, to 4a1 and out.... Asked to learn guitar when Burgess offered free lessons to the boys for the instrument of our choice. He gave me an Oboe (didn't know what it was 'til I opened the box). I lasted 2 lessons. But the guitar which I started at 10 years old, I STILL play guitar and regret not having any formal training. Made a few records, tv progs and now play with some ace musicians retired here. Still can' t understand how short hair and not wearing jeans was better for my education.¿¿ I'm sure I learned just as much when I 'bunked off' and took myself off to the museums, art galleries and old churches around London. Met up with one of Prof. Simmonds fencing students after leaving, he ran of with Prof's wife and I believe married her. LOL --------------- So, if any of you old boys who knew me want to get in touch, please do.... Ted Sieracki

Message: I did my five years at Wandsworth between 64-69. Seeing the other messages reminds me that a lot of the teachers were thugs, products of the second world war. They just used fear. Hopefully teachers use a little more compassion and understanding nowadays. I wonder how many of those boys who hung around 'smokers corner' are now dead from lung cancer. Summer sports were fun,we use to go to Wimbledon park to play cricket, get our names checked off, then sneak off Wimbledon park station and went home. Didn't the teachers ever wonder why the teams were on the small side? I also remember the religious classes and assemblies. Perhaps that's why I'm a devout atheist now! Thanks Mr Pike. And PE teachers would think nothing of humiliating a boy in front of the whole class, a great way to inspire confidence. Did the war crimes tribunal ever catch up with 'killer' Clark? There were some good times though, with some good guys. A lot of us came from Brandlehow school in Putney, which I remember more fondly than Wandsworth prison'. .And do you remember the deputy headmaster, MR Aubery I think his name was. Just the look of him put fear into kids! It was a shame that it was only in my last year or two that some younger teachers started with a different perspective. One I remember got pissed on a day trip to boulogne and tried to chat up one of the female teachers. A lot of the kids were throwing up all over the deck on the ferry after drinking all that cheap wine! If any of you remember me , and want to know how I ended up on the West Coast, send me an e-mail. And Fulham were always better than Chelsea!

Message: Hi all Another bulletin board Jim. I have made contact with lots of old friends from the 1948 to 1956 period. I still am hoping to make contact with Don King, Graham Wrench, and Roy Edwards - all from the same period. Having quickly read through the other messages. it is interesting how many of us were influenced by Dr. Solomons. He really was a true intellectual with a clear understanding of the developing mind of the 11 to 14 year old pupils. In my first year he taught 1A English, History and Geography and so met us for 11 sessions out of 33 (4 days of 7 lessons and one day of 5 lessons followed by double games. Consequently his influence was felt eavery day. A trully remarkable man. Jack Keyte was another influential teacher who taught geography and music. His real love was music and he played the piano and cello with equal virtuosity. He taught many of us a love of music - classical and traditional. Another influentual man. Hope to hear from more contemporaries

Message: I was at Wandsworth from '65 to '71. I was visiting my mother in Southfields the other day and saw that the whole of the 'upper school' had been flattened. I must admit I felt a pang of sadness. My memories are mostly fond...sport, particularly rugby, was my thing and Wandsworth was responsible for giving me, a Sarf London lad, the opportunity to play in a great team (several county players and at least one international...Ernie Carth). I also fenced for a while, rowed and played basketball in one of London's best sides. The opportunities were wonderful. Considering my parents didn't possess two brass farthings to rub together I had every opportunity at Wandsworth to become anything I could have wished to be. Of course I squandered it all. I've followed the growth of this site for a while and feel that Jim Carpenter deserves a big thanks. I've made contact with a few guys from my year through the site and it is fascinating to hear peoples stories. One of the posts refers to Glyn Worsnip...was he the guy who worked with Esther Ranson on That's Life? Can't be too many Glyn Worsnips around. Hats off to Douglas Adams.

Message: The page is really taking off now and its great to see the old names. I was a pupil from 1963-1970, I gamma,2 gamma, 3nu and on into the sixth form. Also in Morley h.I am still in touch with Roy Jenkins, Chris Tasker, Pete Griffiths and Alan(Ed) Martin and recently in touch through this page with Alan Bartlett. Anyone know the whereabouts of Felix Alvarez(also known as Phil). He was a great friend and always regret losing touch. I made some great friends there but as an educational institution it left a lot to be desired and I do remember how teachers would use any implement as a means of corporal punishment including bunsen burner rubber tubing, foil swords(very skilfully applied by the fencing teacher to anyone he caught running in the corridor above gym4), cricket bats as well as the mandatory. slipper. Others just used their feet like the guy who ran the planetarium. Also hated the fixation with rugby although I have a lasting memory of my mate Roy who tackled the thug of a rugby teacher after he insisted Roy played without his glasses rendering him incapable of distinguishing child or adult, so he just tackled anything that moved. The great music tradition!! Yes my voice was so bad I wasnt allowed to sing in Russell Burgesses music lessons, so much for inclusive education. Similar exclusions awaited me in French and Latin lessons, not deemed good enough, but despite that I ended up as Headteacher of two schools but fortunately not back there. It wasnt all bad, the sixth form was good although the beer making and jamming sessions in the basement were fround upon but somehow A levels were acquired and amonsgst the abuse there were some great staff. The Johns of the English department messrs Vockings, Riley, Wilson and Pole were great and Derek Shaw in the Maths department as well. A chap called John Nixon organised a large project called towards 2000 which was for 16 year old leavers and it was good and forward thinking. I expect some of the forward thinking staff had their problems with some of the particular staff who clearly resented the kids from the estates as it was no longer the grammer school it was. Still as I said I made some great friends. Thanks for the work on the page. Also if you read this Ron (Bedford) were you in morley h as well I seem to remember you. Please email me if you were in the forms above or morley h its great to hear how everyone got on Cheers Mike

Message: Started 1970, left 1976. So many memories of the place and pupils. My favourite is; Mr Roberts(the French teacher-no relation)stormed into the classroom of 2 Omega when our teacher was late. He picked up the '6 foot' pole used for opening the high windows and threw it as hard as he could down the aisle of desks. It whistled past my head and knocked a lump of plaster out of the wall. Mr Roberts said, "good job I was good at Javelin, now shut up the lot of you." He then walked out. Lovely man. Please e-mail me if anyone would like to share memories of the old place.

Message: I bunged a message on the 'old' message board but it would seem that it may have been permanently lost due to Yahoo's discontinuance of same. I actually wanted to know if anyone remembers Brian Sawyer - tall bloke, learned trumpet with me with visiting trumpet tutor (Ex-Welsh Guards Band muso) Mr Jones (No - you don't say !) circa 1959/60 before I left W.S. to join the Royal Air Force as a 'junior apprentice'. I know that Brian Sawyer went on to study Organ at the Royal College of Organists and the last I saw of him (many, many years ago) was when he was playing Organ at the church at the 'Putney' end of Beaumont Road. If anyone knows of his whereabouts, could they either let me know at my e-mail address or alternatively pass all of this guff on to Brian. I would be most grateful. Many thanks. It does not represent a complete 'life history' of the man, and nor could it in this restricted and 'condensed' form. It is rather, a precis biography highlighting and recognising some of the more significant, mostly musical events, people, and sundry occurrences that have been instrumental in shaping the course of David's life up to the present day. I hope that you in turn will find interest in the ensuing text. Dylan Geraint-Rhys. (An itinerant musician of restricted means) ==================================================

Message: At the funeral of a pal from school days- John Bilyard who died of cancer on Mon 12th March 2001. Many of us from that time (60-66) still get together and meet occaisionally. I used to play in a group with Trev Shyvers(Chatham)Pete Barnfather(Twickenham)and Jim Ward(Swindon)At the funeral were Trev,John Leach (still Putney!) and Terry Peskitt. This is what prompted me to do a search. Amazing to think that someone from the school had the nouse to actually do something to keep us all in contact. Whatever happened to my mates David Halford, John Ruffy, Derek Mandell and Colin Duel? Yes, I was in the choir and orchestra (timpani) and loved every minute of it. Russel Burgess was one of those rare people who enthused you into doing things. I have a recording done by him of a school concert, somewhere. I must dig it out! I have some pictures of the school taken in 96 when it wasn't in such a bad condition (if anyone is that desperate). Thank God I'm not there now. I suffered under Dolly Coxall(prat of the first order)and Evans(?) the Welsh French and rugby teacher,he threw a hard bord duster at me,I ducked and it hit another kid and knocked him out! Joe Mososki, good egg, Pop Lindsy playing that giant double bass, and lots of dangerous pranks in the chemistry lab with phospherus and hydrocloric acid. Be pleased to hear from anyone who remembers me!

Message: I am supposed to be working. I was waiting for an installation routine that I am writing to complete and I thought about an old school friend call ed Roy Whitwell and wondered where in the world he had ended up. If anyone knows please pass on my mail address. I put Roy'sd name into the Google Search engine and after about ten pages found this site. My goodness what memories. I also remember Mr. Pike's Bible games. He got so p*ssed off if we beat him. Do you remember Mr. Mrozowski and the basement. This is where I first got hooked on computers. Mr. Evans and Latin lessons (yes there were two of us) in the First Aid Room. The smell of his fags were awful and I think that this was one thing kept me from ever trying them. Do you remember Mr. Tobin and French lessons? He could throw a board rubber from the back of the class and hit you so it hurt even in the back row. Do you remember Mr. Citeroni the Chesmistry teacher. I remember after our 'O-Levels' he blew up the lab. I think he got some stick from the school management about that. I remember how embarassed he was when he had to deal with the 'facts of life' in General Science. We put him throught that day. There was Mr. Conchie in Physics, Dr.Soloman who went on and on about his friend Dr Leki (if that's how you spell it), Peter Smith-Jones who looked after the Planetarium. Was that his name Smith-Jones, I can't really remember other than he was a bit of a bully? I should be able to as he was my form master for at least some of the time. What was the American English teacher called? She took a party of us to see 'Women in Love' and got mighty embarrased. I could go on and on. If anyone reads this who knows the whereabouts of any of my peers from this time please send me a mail. Thanks for setting up the site and what a shame they've pulled it down.

Message: I started Wandsworth school in Sept 1972-1977...I heard a lot of rumours about first years being thrown over a six foot wall...and i was scared. When i was at wandsworth school it was rough, a lot of bullie boys going through puberty/adolescence, i didn't feel relaxed their always fearing who would attack you next or upset you....very unhappy memories they were. I remember in the 2nd year we went to Spain..Lloret de mar with Mrs Badder our hippy, friendly English teacher..... i remember a lot of friends, faces but none from Wandsworth school that i've kept in touch with...I was in I Delta. And Morley House...(Mr Pike was our house Master) He also took us for R.K (religious knowledge) with funny Bible games...If anyone reads this and remembers me I would really be interested to know what your up to these days. Anyway this Bible game old Pike would play was he would call out a book in the bible, then verse, line or something and the quickest person to get to the line read the first 3 words out....what a brilliant game eh. Mr Allen who took us for physics use to like Slippering boys for talking during his lessons or in assembly... Yes there certainly were quite a few characters. Well i left wandsworth with zilch o'levels...just bad cse grades......so there you go.

Message: Just hearing about the demolition, (I haven't the courage to look at the pictures just yet!, reminded me, for some unknown reason, of my first day at Wandsworth, (September 1972). Everyone was told their form and placed in a line. All the others left except us. We were then taken on a tour of the old building, as it was known then, because we weren't allocated a classroom. Mr Bachus took us back down to the assembly hall and sat us down in a circle around a blackborad. On the blackboard he wrote a large 'O', growling, "Organisation 1 nu, organisation. Then he left us to think about it.
