Ballet: Insight and Fantasy

Each session will comprise a ballet performance on DVD accompanied by a short explanation to enhance understanding and enjoyment.

Chamber Music for Court and Saloon 

Code:  125  

Classical and Romantic music from the 18th and 19th centuries for soloist or small ensemble, for example piano, violin, voice and quartet. Composer performers include Mozart, Chopin and Liszt plus Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn.

Concert Visits

To obtain a booking form for concert visits please send a stamped self-addressed envelope  9" x 4"  to Iris Hawkins, 1 Merrow Copse, Guildford GU1 2LG.. Full instructions for booking are on the form and members should receive confirmation within a month. Making a booking will automatically enrol you as a member of this Group.

Concert Choice

This group endeavours to enhance our understanding and enjoyment of listening to classical music. A team of presenters create their own programmes in concert format, and during the season works from the various musical periods will be played and discussed.

Ensemble

Definitely a non-competitive group, we play classical, light, folk music and more. Whatever your standard of instrumental playing, you are most welcome to join us in our musical experiences.

Jazz

Join the Jazz Group. Foot tapping music, traditional and modern, with different presenters sharing their love of jazz with us, plus some live performances

Opera

In our established format, each month a different member of the group will present an opera of his/her choosing, some well known but others less so. These presentations have been in sound only but this year we hope to increase the use of DVD projection to add pictures to the sound.

Recorded Music

We listen to a programme of recorded music introduced by one of our members (or by someone outside the group). The programme may have a theme or be a miscellany chosen by the presenter. The object is to enhance our enjoyment of music, both familiar and unfamiliar

Singing

We will be rehearsing choruses from Vivaldi's Gloria for a workshop and performance in November. Otherwise we sing in a variety of styles: from early music, classical and romantic part songs to folk, pop and songs from musicals.  N.B. workshop Nov 9, 11am - 4pm, Emmanuel Church

Tune-playing on Bellplates

Code:    88  

Belleplates are similar to handbells but flat and easier to handle. A one-and-a-half octave set (12 belleplates) is available for this group led by an experienced handbell ringer. Enthusiasm is more important than an ability to read music. Great fun can be had in learning to play tunes as part of a team.

Wagner's Music Dramas

We shall continue our study of Wagner's Music Dramas. This season, members of the group will present various aspects of these works, including some which we have already considered.
