Country Dancing

A better title would be "Social Dancing" for our mix of Barn, Country, Scottish, Old Time and Square Dancing. Instruction is given for all dances; people joining on their own are welcome. We do not learn the dances but enjoy the company of others, keeping fit but with nothing too strenuous. N.B. 30th Sept.

First Aid

Information and practice in the skills that may be needed to treat someone while waiting for medical help. Course is over 5 sessions and is very informal with plenty of time to ask questions.

Keep Fit for Ladies

Code:  34  

Class members say "We love the class - it starts the week really well, the music is great and the movement is fun.  We know it is doing us good and we feel much better for coming.". The class suits all ages and abilities and improves all-round fitness. Note: supplementary cost of £2 per person per session.

Line Dancing

Do you want to keep fit and have fun?  Then join our twice monthly friendly class with lively music. Enjoy easy-to-learn dances suitable for beginners.

Day: 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month
Time: 14.00 to 16.00
Venue: St John's Church Centre, Merrow (Main Hall)

 

T'ai Chi Intermediate

Code: 36  

T'ai Chi 'Lam' Style Form, an ancient Chinese exercise for health and relaxation. Anyone wishing to join this class should have at least 1 year of experience of T'ai Chi.

Please note that the supplementary cost of £2.50 per person per session is payable, in 5-week blocks in advance.

Personal Gardens

This is a small group for those people with, and interested in, gardens, who live in Guildford or in the Merrow/Clandon direction. We meet monthly, often in each others' homes/gardens, but we also make visits to gardens, eg Wisley. The dates given can be altered by group agreement.

Travel

The Travel Group has an ambitious programme of U3A visits to sites in Europe and further afield. Listings will be circulated with the Newsletters. At the October meeting options can be discussed and bookings taken.

Walking groups

Members of each Walking Group are given a programme of walks by their individual Group leaders. Anyone needing a lift to the start point should contact their Group leader. Numbers of walkers are limited in the interests of safety and manageability. Footwear with a good grip is essential, and waterproofs should be carried.

Walking 1 short

Code: 37  

Walks at a leisurely pace with time to view and enjoy the history and beauty of the local countryside. Distance approximately 4-5 miles. Most walks within 10 miles of Guildford. Pub arranged for end of each walk.

Walking 2 short

Code: 38  

Morning walks in West Surrey of about 2 hours' duration - noting the local environment, places of local interest and history as appropriate - planned to finish with a social lunchtime subject to members' availability.

Walking 3 short

Code: 39  

Easy rambles of 4-5 miles, mostly within ten miles of Guildford. Pub (optional) arranged for the end of each walk.

Walking 4 short

Code: 124  

Easy morning rambles of 4-5 miles or about 2 hours, within 10 miles of Guildford. Pub lunch (optional) arranged for the end of each walk.

Day:  4th Thursday monthly
Time: 10.15 for 10.30 start
Venue: Varies each month as per programme issued.

 

Walking - long

Code: 40  

This active walking group enjoys morning walks of between 5.5  and 7 miles over undulating country, within 15 miles of Guildford. At the end, a nearby pub provides refreshment.

Walking 1 all day

Code: 41  

All-day walks of approximately 10 miles in distance, usually within 15 miles of Guildford. Terrain is often undulating or hilly. Time is taken for viewing, learning about and enjoying the countryside. A pub lunch is arranged for each walk.

Wine Appreciation 1

This will be a small group meeting in members' homes. We shall normally taste three wines at each meeting with members sharing the cost. This is usually between £3 and £5.

Yoga

Code: 43  

Hatha yoga is a tool for gaining control over the physical body and provides a physical path to health and longevity. It relaxes the body, calms the mind and brings greater awareness to your life. All abilities welcome.

Please note that the supplementary cost of £3.50 per person per session is payable in a half term block.
