Bridge Beginners

A course in Basic Acol for those who would like to be introduced to this fascinating game. The course is aimed also at those looking for a refresher or those who have never learnt a Bridge system. The guessing in bidding shown by many U3A bridge players can be eliminated by learning this system.

Bridge Intermediate

Code: 23  

A class for people who have already attended a Beginners' Bridge class and for those who have played "Social Bridge" but now wish to get to grips with the Acol system. Each session concentrates on a specific topic and prepared hands are played. No partner is necessary.

Day: 2nd & 3rd Friday of the month
Time: 14.00 to 16.00
Venue: St John's Church Centre, Merrow (Merrow Hall)

 

Bridge Advanced 

Code: 24  

For players wishing to improve their Bridge. Topics will include when to double, losing trick count, weak twos, transfers, signals, Benjamin. This will be a teaching class (6 sessions) followed by the play of set hands.

Day: 3rd Wednesday of the month
Time: 14.00 to 16.00

Bridge  Introduction to Duplicate Group A 

Code: 25  

Players may join either or both groups A and B. Same venue and time. These groups are for players who have a basic knowledge of a Bridge System and some playing experience, but may not have played Duplicate (which is widely played in bridge clubs). They can gain this and greater confidence from these sessions. Advice available. Partners not needed.

Bridge  Introduction to Duplicate Group B

As Group A  with 10-15 minutes of instruction (revision or bidding) before the start of each session. Advice available. Partners not needed.

Social Bridge

This group was formed to cater for members who wish to gain confidence/experience before moving into Duplicate Groups after attending the beginners' or intermediate groups. The Group also caters for members who prefer playing Rubber or Chicago Bridge. Help with bidding or playing will be available.

Bridge  Duplicate Club

The top bridge group to which all partnerships should aspire. Weekly, friendly sessions from early September to late June. Why not move on up?

Scrabble 1

Small group play in 'twos' or 'threes'. A non-competitive, friendly game. Twice a month.

Beginners and Intermediate players welcome to join this friendly group at a riverside location.

Day: Tuesday weekly
Time: 10.00 to 12.00  and 14.00 to 16.00

Boules

Code: 28  

We are a group who play all the year round except for a winter break from December to February, on Tuesday (Audrey) and Wednesday (John) afternoons and on Wednesday evenings when light permits. Boules is more light-hearted than bowls and not energetic.

Table Tennis

Beginners and more advanced players of both sexes enjoy this established group in the true spirit of U3A being very sociable. There are at least 6 tables and help is on hand to assist beginners. Bats are available. Come along for healthy exercise and fun. N.B. No half-term or school holiday breaks.
