Checking IP address on Mac OS X (dial-up Internet connections)

To check the IP address for a dial-up Internet connect on Mac OS X...

1) Launch the Terminal application within the /Applications/Utilities/ folder.
2) Enter the command ifconfig -a and press Return
3) Look for the bottom-most ppp0 section of the results returned.  The value next to inet should be the current IP address.

In the example below, the IP address of this dial-up machine is 62.255.4.141
