Mac Outlook Express 5.x Error -23016

This error is not specific but generally occurs when Outlook Express has timed out in trying to send and/or receive mail.  To resolve the problem...

  1. Disconnect, quit OE, reconnect and then retry

  2. Go to Tools > Accounts and confirm all mail account settings (to be sure, recreate account and try again)

  3. Compact the Database

  4. Quit OE, delete the following files, then relaunch and reconfigure...

         Mac HD:System Folder:Preferences:Outlook Express Prefs
         Mac HD:Documents:Microsoft User Data:Identities:[your Identity]:Preferences

  5. Create a new Identity
