How To Reinstall Remote Access on Classic OS

If there are serious network problems on a Classic OS Mac, one possible resolution is to reinstall Remote Access, the default PPP software that allows dial-up connections to the Internet.

To do this, firstly insert the OS CD.  For OS 9.x machines, the contents of the CD should look the same as the window shown below.  Double-click Software Installers to begin the process.

Double-click the ARA Client Server folder.

Double-click the Remote Access PS Install.

The Remote Access installer begins, just click Continue.

The Software License Agreement is displayed...

Remote Access will be set for Easy Install mode.  This can be customised to pick and choose the installation of specific modem scripts, but since the files are small, it is much more convenient not to customise - instead, just click Install.  The installation should complete within five minutes and after the Mac has restarted, no further action should be required.  The user can try to connect to the Internet again to see if their problem has been resolved.
