Verify that they are typed in exactly as you intended. Use them at your own risk. Modem Buffer adjustment : If you have to adjust the buffers to get around line noise, dropped connections or email problems, the Receive Buffer should be 1 step lower than the Transmit Buffer. Note : If a modem has two strings that can work, use only one or the other, not both of them together. Only use the init specified for that modem, using the wrong init could make the modem connect at 14400 or 9600 BPS. Note: Some modems may not have an init command for disabling v.90 or v.92, however, the command in "Other init used' was used to help a modem get connected to the Internet. Windows XP: Windows XP users may have to 'uncheck' the LCP and Multilink boxes in the PPP settings to get some V.90 and V.92 modems to connect. Modem type or version : To find the modem type or version number ( v.92 or v.90 or neither), open Control Panel, open Modems or Phone and Modem Options, then perform a Diagnostics or Query and look through the response section of the results. Note : Lucent win modem version 8.23 is a V.92 modem that did not connect when using +MS=v34,0 to disable V.92 . However it will connect without an init string / extra command. Some newer 'E Machines' have a Conexant Soft 56K pci modem, but on the front label says " V.92 ready pci ", +MS=v34,0 worked in that case.
