All Saints Clifton - The Carillon
The original carillon machine was installed along with the clock in 1879. Extra bells were also installed at this time to provide the extra notes required to play the tunes. The machine shown in the pictures was installed sometime towards the end of the 19th century after its predecessor had fallen into disuse. It plays 4 tunes utilising the 11 bells we have today, somewhat less versatile than the earlier machine which had 2 barrels each with 7 tunes giving a fortnightly cycle of 14 tunes and which utilised the 15 bells that existed then.
