Notes
General:
John and Ann married in St Augustine's Church Norwich on July the 9th 1855. John was 24 and Ann was 21. John's occupation is given as Fishmonger. Ann's is not given. John is a batchelor and Ann a spinster. John's father is stated to be John Worledge, deceased. Ann's is stated to be Joseph Seaman, Weaver. Both bride and groom reside in Norwich. The witnesses to the marriage are. John's sister Maria Mallet , John's brother Thomas Worledge, Ann's sister Martha Appleton and Ann's brother in law Christopher Appleton, John and Ann were married after banns by the rector of St Augustines M J Rackham.

We next find John and Ann taking over the "George 1V" pub at St George, Colegate in 1861. In 1865 they move to the "Fellmongers Arms" at 90 Oak Street in the same parish. A daughter Ann was born in 1867 but in 1872 smallpox struck the family and Ann died aged 5 on the 3rd of January. She is certified as dying of "Variola (not vaccinated).

16 days later her mother succumbed to the same illness aged 38. She is noted as the wife of John Worledge a fish curer. The informant is Martha Seaman, present at death Oak Street.

Later in the same year.John married Sarah Balls at St Saviours Church in Norwich on the 5th of August. His status is widower and hers is widow.Sarah gives no occupation and John gives Fish Merchant. John is41 and Sarah 36. They both reside in St Saviours. John describes his father as John Worledge Tailor. Sarah gives hers as William Lincoln Thorp Twine Spinner. The witnesses are John's Brother Thomas Worledge. John's sister in law Amelia Worledge. They are married after banns.

The children named Balls have (Worledge) behind their names in brackets.

.In the 1901 census Sarah is Head of the family and is still at the same address which was renamed the "Railway Arms" on the 27/3/1883. Sarah takes over as Publican on the 23rd of March 1897. She died aged 65 in 1903.

The Pub is then taken over by Frederick Henry Abbs the husband of Sarah's daughter Sarah Frances Worledge. He ran it for a few years before it was taken over by William Balls. The pub was renamed "The FellmongersArms" and was in business till 1962 when it was demolished to make way for a traffic scheme.

1901 Census.88 Oak Street Norwich, (Railway Arms"

Sarah Frances Worledge Head Widow 62 Publican.(Railway Arms)
Ann, Single, Daughter. 27 No Profession.
Maria, Single Daughter, 23 Tailoress, Worker.
John Nicholas. Single Son 16 Apprentice carpenter & joiner. Worker.

John is in many of the business and local directories under various headings. Fish Merchant. Fish Curer. His business address is given as 7 The Fishmarket Norwich. He also appears as a Licensed Victualler at the Fellmongers and Railway Arms. The same building renamed halfway through his tenancy.

John's fishmongering business was taken over by one George Thorpe who traded at both "The Fish Market" and 149 Waterloo Place in Norwich. He still traded under the name of John Worledge but he filed for bancruptcy in 1906. The name Thorpe would seem to suggest a relationship to John's wife Sarah but I have no evidence of this.
