« The fifth concerto is well written and melodically inventive. It is in three movements with a central fast movement (in this case a fugue) framed by subtly slower movements—a pattern familiar from other Galant style compositions of late Baroque and early Classical periods. The first two movements are in G minor and present complementary aspects of similar chromatic ideas. The Andante affetuoso è cantabile exhibits the sentiments of C. P. E. Bach’s empfindsamkeit idiom with two well contrasted themes, the second charmingly lyric and in the relative major key. This movement has strong affinities with the first movement of John Stanley’s C minor concerto (op. 10, no. 4). The angular chromatic subject of the second movement fugue (marked Allegro) is balanced by an athletic countersubject and brilliant triplet writing for organ and first violin which lend a Haydnesque sturm und drang atmosphere. Variety is achieved through extended episodes for keyboard alone or with light orchestral accompaniment. The dense keyboard texture shows the influence of Handel’s keyboard suites and the remarkable use of chromatic modulation prefigures Liszt’s Fantasia on B-A-C-H. The concluding Tempo di Minuetto is preceded by a short Largo è Staccato introduction to make the transition to G major, in which the concerto ends. This suave minuet with its elegant cantabile melodies, rondo form and pizzicato strings passages is typical of the lyrical concerto finales of  J. C. Bach and Mozart. »

No organ concertos survive by J. S. Bach, the father of the harpsichord concerto and the most important composer of solo organ music. This arrangement draws musical material from the obbligato sinfonias in cantata 35 and 156 and provides organists with a coherent and satisfying concert work with strings which can also be performed on harpsichord

Full Score with five parts for Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Continuo (Cello/Bass), Organ/Harpsichord
