OF
G4JKQ-L & MB7IIL-L
In view of iphone closing down in April Ist 2001, I would advise internetlinking for Ham Radio via Echolink or Eqso. Both these systems run well and can be run on most pc,s. I use both systems to link the G4JKQ Internet link from my qth. Echolink is now my Prefered system and runs most time here.
ECHOLINK
EchoLink is software which
allows Amateur Radio stations to communicate with one
another over the Internet, using voice-over-IP (VoIP)
technology. The program allows worldwide
connections to be made between stations, from computer to
station, or from computer to computer
e QSO eQSO is a complete dedicated ham radio internet gateway and server system. It is intended for use by RF gateways and PC users connected to the internet.

If you connect to the Gateway on 434.475 or 145.2875 you can operate the link with D.T.M.F tones
Simply - to use the Link/Gateway - send DTMF '01' and to disconnect send '#'. You can check if the Gateway has a internet station connected to it sending '08' and the gateway id by sending '11'.

I am more than happy to let you take control of the link/s with your DTMF tones, all I ask is if you connect to a link or station and get no reply, before connecting to another do a # DTMF TO AVOID MULTIPLE LINKING.
You should be able to get into either Gateway from most of the midlands area when they are connected, I have a reasonable take off and get good coverage with low power.
Gateway/Station Details
.The gateway is not 24/7 but as and when activity demands
The qth is a village called Ibstock, approx 12 miles nw of the city of Leicester in the Central East Midlands of the uk, which is about 125 miles north of London. I run Two frequencies on the gateway, usualy 434.475. (G4JKQ-L)I also hold a N.O.V. Unattended Mode for 145.2875 using the callsign MB7IIL-L . I run a modified pmr radio to run both links, both into a co-linear antennas running the permitted power as directed by the N.O.V,s (NOTICE OF VARIATION).
Brief details about me, well I am retired now on medical grounds so I spend most of my time in and around the house as I have some disbility problems which restrict my walking. Picture of me Summer 2003.

How does a RF Link work
To operate a link all
you need is the Sysop software from echolink, a radio, antenna,
and interface. The interface you use can be one that you purchase
from various sites. See http://www.synergenics.com/el/interfaces.htm or you can build a simple
interface. The one that I use cost only about $5 US to build. The
circuit that I used was the one shown here
this operates the PTT and it is built
into the 9 pin plug that connects to the computer so you do not
even need a board. You can set up all the DTMF tones and other
interface options in the great echolink software. Remember in the
UK to run a link/gateway you need a N.O.V from the RSGB http://www.dcc.rsgb.org/Online.htm Other countries you must check
with the licensing authority of your country. Note the opto
device can be any general purpose device and is not critical,
such as a 4N25, 4N29.
