The qth is a village called Ibstock, approx 12 miles nw of the city of Leicester in the Central East Midlands of the uk, which is about 125 miles north of London. I run Two frequencies on the gateway, usualy 434.475. . I run a modified pmr radio to run the link. A co-linear antennas running the permitted power as directed by the N.O.V,s (NOTICE OF VARIATION).

How does a RF Link work

To operate a link all you need is the Sysop software from echolink, a radio, antenna, and interface. The interface you use can be one that you purchase from various sites. See http://www.synergenics.com/el/interfaces.htm or you can build a simple interface. The one that I use cost only about $5 US to build. The circuit that I used was the one shown here this operates the PTT and it is built into the 9 pin plug that connects to the computer so you do not even need a board. You can set up all the DTMF tones and other interface options in the great echolink software. Remember in the UK to run a link/gateway you need a N.O.V from the RSGB http://www.dcc.rsgb.org/Online.htm Other countries you must check with the licensing authority of your country. Note the opto device can be any general purpose device and is not critical, such as a 4N25, 4N29.
