1) The MIDNIGHT STREET ‘JOURNEYS INTO DARKNESS’ WEBCOMP 2004 Short Story Competition is open to anyone over the age of 18.
2) The fee of £5 ($9 US) covers each individual entry. If an entrant pays for a three issue subscription (one year) to MIDNIGHT STREET magazine at the time of application to the competition (or is an existing subscriber, either to MIDNIGHT STREET or ROADWORKS magazines), their second entry is free of charge. There is no limit to the number of entries, but only the second entry will be free of charge to subscribers. Only cheques in GB pounds sterling or US dollars accepted from entrants not paying through ‘PayPal’. Cheques must be made payable to ‘T DENYER’ only, and be accompanied by the entry form.
3) Entries must be no longer than 5000 words and must be original work in English which has not previously been published. There is no minimum word limit. Entries should fall within the genre categories published by MIDNIGHT STREET magazine: Horror, Dark Fantasy, Science Fiction, Slipstream or a combination of these, and reflect the competition theme, ‘JOURNEYS INTO DARKNESS’. See also Allen Ashley’s preferences. Entries can only be submitted by e-mail, to tdenyer@ntlworld.com. The covering message must include the entrant’s name, snail mail and e-mail address and a contact telephone number. The message must also include: The title/titles of the story/stories submitted. The word count/counts. Whether a critique is required, and upon which story/stories. The amount and method of payment (ie: ‘PayPal or cheque).
4) Each entry must be attached as either a Text or RTF file that can be read by a PC. Alternatively, you can send the entry in the body of the e-mail. The title of the story must appear on each subsequent page, but no other author details must be shown. The pages must be clearly numbered.
5) Entries must arrive no later than 28 February 2004. Receipt of entries will be acknowledged within one week. Please do not query until after that period.
6) Entries will be judged by Allen Ashley, whose decision is final. Mr Ashley will provide a critique where requested, providing a payment of £5 ($9 US) for one story or £9.50 ($16 US) for two stories has been received by the editor. The critique will be provided after the closing date of the Competition.
