Welcome
Thanks for visiting my site. I am the author
called Tim C. Taylor who lives in Bromham,
England. If
you were looking for a Canadian named Tim Taylor,
or some guy who worked with Baldrick on Time Team, then you'll need to go
back to Google.
News
10th September 2010 – James
started school today; he loved it. I shall be at NewCon5 next month, a SciFi
literary convention in Northampton. I wil be helping out with a writers'
workshop, so no idea how that will turn out. The Northampton SF Writers' Group
have an anthology launched Oct 9th called Shoes, Ships and Cadavers:
Tales from North Londonshire. I have a story within. More
details on the NewCon Press website.
The dustjacket is below and if you look very closely, you can just about
see my name. The published just won a Best Publisher award, so they must
know what they are doing J.
9th June 2010 – Been a bit
lax on the updates. I did join the Northampton SF Writers Group and enjoy a
great time there. Had Stain Blossoms out with Angry Robot last year but no
joy. Current writing status: redrafted Stain Blossoms Book1 (of 4).
Steaming ahead on Stain Blossoms Book 2, though taking a temporary break to
write a brave short story for a Northampton anthology. Then finish off
book2 in time to start redrafting My Future in the Past once it's finished
workshopping at Orbiter. I have
lots of photos on Photobox of family. Email me if you want an invite.
Looking forward to James's birthday this Friday. We're going on the bus and
train to the Natural History Museum to see the dinosaurs. Can't wait.
J uly 2006 – Aphelion have published my
story, Speak, Vaccine! Speak! in
their July issue. You can read it here.
After July you can read it in their archives.
22nd December 2007 – Looking
forward to Christmas. James will love it and we'll all enjoy watching his
cheeky grin. Also looking forward to finishing the first draft of my novel,
Stain Blossoms. I've written all
the chapters, just a little more tidying to do. It works out to be 223,000
words or around 850 pages. I will send it off to Lulu for printing before
the end of the year. It will be a private printing for my editing but I
want to read start to finish to get a sense of consistency and pacing, and
that will be easier than with a box of A4 printouts. I've designed a dust
jacket to go with the book and that was interesting learning what Paint.NET
can do. I'll bear that in mind with my photographs. NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION:
Join Northampton SF Writers Group.
14th June 2007 – Thought I'd better post something to let any
readers know I haven't forgotten this site! James had his first birthday on
Monday, and had so much fun playing with his presents that he's still not
got around to opening them all yet. Photos: since I got a fancier camera my
picture file size has got a lot larger (esp for videos!). So I'm not
updating James photos but am uploading them to Photobox. If anyone wants to
see them, drop me an email. Finally the writing: it looks very bleak on
this news page because no one's bought my stories for a while. On the other
hand, I am currently 178,000 words through my first draft of Stain
Blossoms. I hope to finish the initial draft of this novel soon at some point
below 200,000. Once I've posted that for review, I'll tidy up My Future in the Past.
16th July 2006 – Aphelion have published my story, Speak, Vaccine! Speak! in their July
issue. You can read it here.
After July you can read it in their archives.
15th July 2006 – I've added some more pics and videos of James
in the galleries section. For the videos, you need to have installed Apple
Quicktime.
13th July 2006 – I've registered my domain, which means you can
find this page more easily now at www.timctaylor.com
7th July 2006 – Forgotten worlds issue#3 is out and I'm in it
with The Meandering Mayhem of Thogron
Throatbiter. Get your copy here.
25th June 2006 – Family are home; all is good. I've created a
new picture gallery for James. Click on 'Galleries' to the left to find it.
11th June 2006 – 5pm.
Became a father! James William Rushby Taylor was 8 lb 2oz. Mum and Dad
tired but well. I've updated
the 'breeding programme' section of the galleries.
31st May 2006 – My story 'Key to Forever' is up in the May
edition of Creative
Singularity here. Stick a comment in the forum telling the world what
you think of it so far! Nursery is finished. There's a picture in the
galleries section.
3rd May 2006 – Sold my story 'The Meandering Mayhem of
Thogron Throatbiter" to UK print magazine Forgotten Worlds. My favourite story
title! Due out on June 30th. http://www.forgotten-worlds.co.uk
14th April 2006 – Got the floor down in the nursery. Looks very
good. You can see it too in the galleries section. Also realised that with Griffin taking Key to
Forever for Creative Singularity, then I've placed half of all the SF short
stories I've written. I'm quite chuffed about that.
12th April 2006 – Two things today. Griffin Wray at Creative Singularity
said nice things about my story Key to Forever and wants to publish it. And
I started a baby page. We haven't finished making the baby yet, so I've put
a photo of the teddy bear I painted onto the nursery here. I know Bigus Mickus can monitor my
DIY remotely from New Hampshire.
Talking of which, I've entered the strange science fiction world of web
cams, so if anyone wants to talk to me on MS Messenger, then give me a
buzz.
26th Feb 2006 – Found a very good Hard SF site here: www.hardsf.net They were kind enough to publish
Red Queen for me. That's great for me as that was the hardest SF I've
written and that's not popular in many places. Fits right at home here.
15th Feb 2006 – About 40,000 words through my second novel.
Almost done all my OWWW crits to get the first novel critiqued. Melia is
due to give birth 23d June. Poker results for 2006 are here.
(Items not necessarily presented in order of importance!)
29th Sept 2005 — Finished all the typing up of my first novel.
Looks very nice. I'm getting it printed. That's not the same as being
published, and it is certainly not for sale. But I'll have a few copies
around in paperback format, courtesy of the Daily Mail. So if anyone wants
to have a read, and give me feedback, then let me know. This weekend I'm
going to the Newcon3 SF convention Northampton.
I'll bike there and back both days. About 90 miles in total!
19th Sept 2005 — Got my copies of Aoife's Kiss issue #14. My
name is on the front cover, which makes me feel very proud. Cost you $9
including international postage from various online retailers such as Project
Pulp. Buy it and enjoy it. I've read most of my 'stablemates' in Issue
#14, and they're a good bunch to be associated with.
9th Sept 2005 —
Finished the first draft of the novel in the Swan on Monday. Still
typing up and editing to do. Feels great, though. Wordcount worked out at
130,000. Get a little distracted last month by writing five chapters of my
second novel. BTW: we got a new bathroom last week.
21 June 2005
— My draft of the novel
'My Future in the Past' reached 104,000 words.
25 Feb 2005 — I sold 'Geometric Growth' to Aoife's
Kiss, due to be printed in the September 2005 issue. This is particularly
pleasing as this is the first short story I ever wrote (back in 2002,
although it's been significantly edited since then) http://www.samsdotpublishing.com/aoife/main.htm
22 Feb 2005 — We're getting replacement
patio doors put in. They're halfway through tonight and it's snowing. Brrr.
I've abandoned my last web site because my ISP's host server couldn't give
me the access rights I needed to make the Flash site work. I'll add in the
rest of it soon.
17 Feb 2005 — 'Feed the Worlds 2484' short
is accepted for publication in Transfinite #6 (currently we're on issue#2).
http://www.geocities.com/methuslah/ [Looks
like that magazine folded. Rats!]
14 Feb 2005 — My draft of the novel 'My
Future in the Past' passed 85,000 words.
05 Feb 2005 — 'Search. Destroy. Deceive.'
Published in Aphelion. This was originally entitled 'Future Speculation'. http://www.aphelion-webzine.com
Tell me what you think of it on Aphelion's discussion board.
23 Jan 2005 — 'Virtual Parenting'
published in Planet Magazine. (You may want to select 'Jan 2005 archive') http://planetmag.com
Latest
poker results: here. Nice to see that the
cumulative total after nine sessions (that we remembered to record) only
one person has won or lost more than their £5 stake: Robbo!
