Meet the Mentals……………….

Some of you may recognise us from the various bands we have been in over the years (although some of us had more hair back then!) or from other bands we are currently in.

The League of Mentalmen was formed in March 2002 – prior to Mark joining us we were doing similar types of songs with a female singer (Shammi & the Leathers) but we knew a male singer would give us more scope for the type of material we wanted to murder!! (And we had the idea of wearing women’s clothes for a laugh and we couldn’t have a singer who looked better than us!!).

Like a lot of bands we try and take a song and make it our own – in our case we normally take a standard pop song or ballad and make it faster and rockier than the original. Although we have been known to slow it down and add a reggae feel!  We also do the odd original punk/metal cover for good measure…..anyway, here we are:

Mental Mickey – guitar

Started in a club band called Axis – went on to play with Tim in the X-Pistols, who supported various bands including The Damned, The Vibrators and Tenpole Tudor.

Paul Mental – bass guitar/backing

Looks far too good in a dress – used to play with country blues band Mojo.…. until he saw the light and sold his soul for punk! ……..or something like that……

Mental Rasty – singer

The Jack Duckworth of the Frock and Roll world..…prior to joining the Mentalmen he sang with a local band Black Sheep doing rock and blues.

Tim Mental – drums/backing

Auditioned for Judas Priest to replace Dave Holland…. but was beaten to it by Scott Travis (current drummer)……..close but no cigar!

Started in glam rock band Tayma in the 80’s and also played with Mick in Sex Pistols tribute band, the X-Pistols during late 90’s, early 00’s.

Tim, Mickey and Paul were, for a short period, Sigue Sigue Sputnik 2, fronted by original singer, Martin Degville, though sadly vodka was an issue so they reverted back to the Mentalmen, where vodka could be handled in a more rock n roll way. X X
