TEACHING CHILDREN

  • Slimy Green Custard - a fun and productive experience for children, teachers and learning assistants. Session(s) will combine creative exercises, discussion and periods of writing, the aim being to build confidence and coax the children to take more time over their writing, thereby increasing the depth and texture of their work.  Ideally this would involve several sessions rather than a one-off workshop, although it could be adapted

  • Story-building - A full-class activity demonstrating how a story can evolve from a single detail.  The children will then work singly & in groups to build their own stories.  A full day/multiple sessions (i.e. out of hours workshops) will allow for some performance technique and telling of stories.

  • Starting to Write -  showing children how to assemble the material for stories/poetry from a range of sources.  We may use pictures, for example, or objects or language itself – again, a full day/multiple sessions (i.e. out of hours workshops) will allow greater scope and give the children more opportunities to share and develop their work.

  • Using the Senses - Some things we take for granted: the taste of an apple, the texture of orange peel, the smell of cabbage.  This session will help the children to become aware of their senses and to look at how these can be used in their writing – applicable to stories and poetry

  • Storytellingworkshop -This workshop is designed to enhance awareness of story structure And to give children both the opportunity and incentive to develop their communication skills

  • Writing and Art - in which we use a range of works - from michelangelo to pollock - as a springboard for writing
