Chris Gore tells me that the Redskins netminders for the 92/93 season were Charlie May, John Wynne, Simon Burns and Nathan Roue. Simon Burns replaced Charlie May in the squad in December and Nathan Roue returned to the club on loan from Chelmsford (?) in January. John Wynne seemed to then play for the Bruins, Charlie May was also around later on in the season as he replaced Simon Burns once in February due to injury/illness. Michael Baker has provided lots of photos of the players of this period - click here to see them.

1989-90

It was a season to forget for many of the Redskins supporters, but they turned out week after week to watch them play and still felt very proud of what Streatham meant to them, just as today. 36 games were played: 4 won, 30 losses, 2 drawn with 221 goals for but 453 against. The Redskins were relegated from the Heineken Ice Hockey Premier Division after the play-offs against the Cardiff Devils. They were at least London cup finalists.

Text from the "The Hockey Annual" for that season was as follows:
"Streatham's slow decline in recent years continued in 1985-86 to the point where the team failed to make the playoffs for the first time. Their situation wasn't helped by the upheaval of a coaching change in mid-season - the seventh in three years. The club disagreed with disciplinarian Richard Bacon's policy of using imports at the expense of the British players, and were dissatisfied with the results. Bacon did not go quitely, claiming the club was badly run and predicting a 'bridesmaid' status for Redskins. At the time of his departure the south London club were on target for the playoffs, only one point off a point-a-game pace, and with victories over Ayr, Fife and champions-to-be Murrayfield. Perhaps he had a point. The club's choice of Danny Wong as his successor was certainly a surprise. Wong, a Chinese-Canadian in his early fifties, played defence for Streatham in1959-60, had little coaching experience at senior level. In seventeen games under Wong's guidance Redskins produced just four wins against the Premier's weakest sides, Peterborough and Whitley. The biggest blow to south London pride came in the closing month of the schedule when their bitter rivals, Nottingham Panthers, shutout Redskins in Parliment Street and skated off 6-4 victors in Streatham, results that decided which of the teams would enter the playoffs. Fiery forward Craig Melancon, one of the most spectacular players on the circuit, was Redskin's top scorer with a club record 128 points. He might well have got more had he not spent more time in the penalty box - 170 minutes - than any other Premier Division player."

The following extract is also taken from the same annual ("Premier Round Up" by Gordon Wade): Streatham Redskins , noted for their hockey skills in past years, adopted a more aggressive approach and found themselves in some of the season's less memorable incidents. Very memorable, unfortunately, were two of their games, on consecutive weekends, which were abandoned. Redskins themselves refused to continue playing at Dundee on Feb 23, and Ayr walked off in south London eight days later. Both clubs claimed the refereeing was the cause of their actions. The BIHA fined the clubs £300 each and suspended their team managers until the end of the league schedule, some seven games. Earlier in the campaign, Redskins had fallen out with Bruins at Ayr and collected a massive 146 penalty minutes.

Gunnar Persson from Sweden has beeen able to identify the year from the facts that as the team won two trophies in that season and the 'big ugly Brodrick' is the captain (he only played in 48/49 and 49/50).
