Streatham Redskins match reports
Peterborough Islanders (home) 8/11/09: Redskins 3 - 1 Islanders
Streatham Redskins looked to make it two consecutive home wins as they faced bottom side Peterborough Islanders at the High Road rink. The Redskins were on the front foot straight away when Jon Brammall slashed Peter Molnar to give the home side an early powerplay. From the face off Adrian Wheeler passed the puck back to Josh Allam but Islanders goalie Simon Wren saved the subsequent point shot. Still on the powerplay the Redskins opened the scoring when Louis Lockwood's shot rebounded kindly to Molnar on the far post and he backhanded the puck in to the net.
With the home side now in control, a long pass from Casimir Madren-Britton found Lockwood and he split the Islanders defence but he shot straight at Wren who was then wiped out by one of his own defence men sliding in. Thirteen minutes in to the game Lockwood again won a face off in the Islanders defensive zone and Chris Rasmussen’s quick wrist shot from the top of the circle flew in to the bottom corner of the net to make it 2-0 to the Redskins.
Four minutes later Redskins Dan Botting was given two minutes for hooking, however this did not interrupt Streatham’s flow as Molnar picked up a sloppy pass from Islanders Ross Mackintosh on the blue line, but the Slovakian could not beat Wren on the one on one. Mackintosh nearly redeemed himself shortly afterwards as he somehow squeezed through the Redskins defence but found goalie Will Sanderson equal to his shot.
At the start of the second period Molnar went close again as he forced a great glove save from Wren but the visitors gained themselves a powerplay when Richard Hardy tripped Kieran D’Eath. The Islanders powerplay was lacklustre and they didn’t manage a meaninful attempt on goal. The Redskins punished the increasingly sloppy play from their opponents when Adrian Wheeler skated down the left wing, shook off his marker and cut inside before firing the puck into the bottom left hand corner of the goal for his first career goal.
At 3-0 up the home side took control and Molnar twisted and turned inside the Peterborough defensive zone causing all kinds of problems before teeing up Britton for the point shot which was easily saved.
With six minutes remaining in the period, Mackintosh tore down the left wing before unleashing a fierce slapshot which Sanderson caught on its way to the top corner of the goal.
Redskins Roman Culik was unlucky to be assessed an interference penalty, however the visitors took full advantage of the extra man on the powerplay. Adrian Worth picked out D’Eath with a good pass and the defenceman hustled down the left wing, cut inside and wrong footed Sanderson from close range to give the Islanders hope.
Just before the end of the period Brammall tripped Hardy and the Redskins got another powerplay. With the Redskins starting the third period with a man advantage the home crowd were expecting their team to add to the scoreline, however a disjointed powerplay failed to bring further goals. The Redskins did create chances and Lockwood and Hardy both had good opportunities to score but found Wren in good form.
Streatham were caught sleeping at the back with eight minutes gone as Mackintosh sneaked in behind them on the far blue line and then missed another one on one with Sanderson. Seconds later Mackintosh broke free again but this time Culik was alert and poke checked the puck to safety.
Peterborough were starting to see more of the puck and they knew that with ten minutes still to go in the game, the two goal cushion credited to Streatham was not an impossible task to overcome. The home side by comparison were becoming sloppy and looking visibly tired. Then, with eight minutes to go, Britton’s excellent long range pass found Hardy on the far blue line but Wren was the Islanders saviour again. Mackintosh and Molnar then tangled in the Peterborough defensive zone, but the Slovakian rose to the veteran Scot’s bait and lashed out earning himself a two minute cross checking penalty plus a ten minute misconduct.
On the shorthanded play, Streatham seemed to play better and when Hardy hit Brammall on his own blue line the puck bobbled out to Lockwood who skated down on Wren but was once again denied by the veteran goalie.
The game fizzled out in the closing minutes as both sides hit penalty trouble. There was one last chance for birthday boy Richard Hardy who had all the time in the world in front of net but once again Wren pulled off an magnificent glove save to keep the score at 3-1 to the Redskins.
The Redskins will be aiming to make it three home wins in a row when they take on the Hraingey Greyhounds next week. Face off 6.45 pm.
Milton Keynes Thunder (home) 1/11/09: Redskins 6 - 4 Thunder
Streatham faced Milton Keynes for the second time in a fortnight and Redskins coach Barry Spours was hoping to build on last week's hard fought win in Buckinghamshire. Both sides struggled in the opening ten minutes of the game with neither goalie facing any clear shots. The home side then took control and Richard Hardy won the puck in the corner, passed to Peter Molnar and his deflected pass looped up in the air in front of Thunder goalie Mark Woolf allowing youngster Louis Lockwood to show amazing hand eye co ordination by volleying the puck in to the net with the shaft of his stick.
Straight from face off, Redskins Roman Culik slipped over and Harrison Goode latched on to the loose puck but Redskins goalie Will Sanderson made the save. Milton Keynes were made to pay for this miss as Molnar gathered the puck inside the Thunder half, skated past two players and then threaded the puck through to Hardy whose composed finish beat Woolf to make it 2-0.
Frustratingly for the home supporters the Redskins suffered another lapse in concentration from the restart, when a fantastic pass from Tom Roles split the Redskins defence to allow Jamie Holland to skate one on one with Sanderson and pull a goal back for the visitors.
The Redskins did manage to finish the period on a high though, when Britton gave the puck to Molnar inside his own zone and the Slovakian skated the full length of the ice beating three players before skating to the right of the goal and firing the puck in to the top corner off his backhand.
With a two goal cushion the Redskins started the second period with a little less intensity. This allowed the visitors more control of the puck and they took full advantage when Connor Hubbock’s slapshot from the point struck the tip of Sandersons stick and looped agonisingly over his head landong nicely for Dan Chaplen to score.
Streatham restored the two goal cushion shortly afterwards in bizarre circumstances. A slap shot from Hardy was saved by Woolf but the puck dissapeared out of the goalies view and both sets of players paused trying to work out where it had gone. Fortunately for Streatham the referee could see the puck was loose and didn’t blow the whistle, leaving Lockwood the simple task of poking the puck in to the net.
The home side scored again five minutes later when Molnar passed the puck out in front of the net to Lockwood who couldn’t get enough power on his shot, but the rebound fell back to Molnar who made no mistake to make it 5-2. This goal caused the Thunder to call a time out to try and re-organise.
The timeout didn’t have the desired affect and Lockwood went through on goal again only to be denied by Woolf.
The rest of the period seemed to be fizzling out as both sides reverted to the scrappy play that had been in evidence at the start of the game. That was until Lockwood found Hardy with a long pass, and he cut in from the right wing under close attention from the Thunder defence, he then managed to nudge the puck ahead and then dive full length before slicing the puck past the stranded Woolf.
The third period started badly for the Redskins as the lively Jacob Heron created space for himself and then passed to Jamie Holland in front of goal for his second and the Thunders third of the night.
Streatham then had two good chances to score as Rasmussen and then Lockwood were both denied by Woolf.
Frustration began to show when Connor Goode tangled with Lockwood and then Thunders Matt Roberts skated off the bench to jump on Hardy. Roberts was given a game penalty for his trouble and Martyn Snape got a ten minute misconduct.
The fisticuffs benefitted the visitors as the home side went in to their shell and nerves began to show as Chaplen skated on to a Lewis Clifford pass and scored on a short handed play to bring the deficit back to only two goals.
The home fans had their hearts in their mouths shortly after when a trick by Hardy on his own blue line backfired and Goode skated clear, only for Sanderson to save Hardy’s blushes with a great save.
The home side were visibly tired and the Thunder piled on the pressure in the closing minutes of the game. The Redskins defended well to deny the visitors another goal and with the seconds ticking down Liam Rasmussen showed great determination to break free for the Redskins but Woolf made the save.
Milton Keynes Thunder (away) 25/10/09: Thunder 0 - 2 Redskins
Following two consecutive defeats the Streatham Redskins knew that they were under pressure to get a win against the Milton Keynes Thunder in Buckinghamshire. Streatham handed a debut to Owen Murphy who returned to the club from Haringey Greyhounds last week. The first ten minutes of the game saw both sides struggle to gain any momentum and whilst Streatham had slightly more attempts on the Thunder goal, they were not comfortably in control.
The Redskins were helped in the end by clumsy challenges from MK Thunder players that saw referee Ian Hayden hand out two 2+10 minute penalties in quick succession for hits from behind. Both offences were on Streatham’s Richard Hardy and the second one, administered by Thunder’s Bernie Bradford gave Streatham the powerplay that the Redskins took advantage of. It came from clever link up play by Peter Molnar and Russell Stevens down low in the Thunder defensive zone, and when the puck broke to Louis Lockwood on the left hand side, he skated across the slot and roofed the puck in to the top corner past the screened Thunder goalie Mark Woolf.
The goal quickly galvanised the home side and Dean Holland skated past two Redskins players only to see his quick shot saved by the sprawling legs of goalie Will Sanderson. The Thunder then applied three minutes of pressure on the Redskins goal but a mistake from Lewis Clifford on his own blue line allowed Liam Rasmussen to skate down one on one with Woolf but the Thunder goalie made the save.
The second period started well for the Redskins and the Thunder began to get frustrated. Thunder defenceman Bradford gave Stevens a sly punch in the head, however the referee saw it and the Redskins powerplay went close twice through Gennadi Yufit and Roman Culik.
With eight minutes gone in the second, Redskins forward Richard Hardy grappled with Thunder captain Mike Knights and the Redskin was less than subtle holding Knights stick and the referee gave the home side a much needed powerplay. The Thunder used the extra man to their advantage and Holland hustled hard in the corner before sliding the puck back to Connor Hubbock in front of net but the youngster could not find a way past Sanderson despite a quick wrist shot. This was to be the best chance the Thunder had on the powerplay but Streatham were certainly struggling to get hold of the puck.
With eleven minutes gone, Chris Rasmussen worked tirelessly to gain possession and through sheer determination he managed to shake of his markers and play through a delightful pass to Lockwood on the back post but he shot straight at Woolf.
Despite this rare attack by Streatham the play was very much dominated by Milton Keynes with Knights in particular pulling all the strings at the back. It was through a series of unlucky bounces that the Thunder were presented with their best chance of the game. With the Streatham defence nowhere to be seen, Kieran Goody found himself with time and space right in front of net but Sanderson made another save. Shortly after, good work from Dan Chaplen made space to thread a pass through to Hubbock, but Sanderson saved again from the close range shot.
With the clock counting down, Knights skated from his own end and stick handled past three Redskins players before being denied by Sanderson again. As Knights skated past, his stick caught Sandersons helmet and knocked it off his head prompting Stevens to have a few words and both players exchanged shoves. The third period started as a 4 on 4 with Stevens and Snape in the box following the previous periods handbags, and then Redskins captain Ed Koral was assessed a delaying the game penalty for firing over the glass in his own end. This gave the Thunder a 4 on 3 powerplay and Knights rattled the post with a point shot to raise the heart rate of the Redskins supporters. With the Thunder enjoying large spells of pressure on the Redskins net it was to Knights’ frustration that Hardy blocked his slap shot and then the referee blew his whistle thinking that the Redskin was injured.
Streatham were in danger of letting their lead slip but they remarkably scored again to double the lead. A clearance out of the defensive zone was chased by Roman Culik and his dogged determination took him past two Thunder players down the boards. With remarkable composure he then cut in from the right wing and finished with a sublime snap shot in to the bottom corner.
If the Thunder were annoyed previous to the goal, they were positively fuming now and Bradford in particular looked visibly angry. With five minutes remaining Knights played Paul Jamieson through on the Redskins net but by now Sanderson was playing on top form and the goalie made another save. This seemed to be the last straw for Knights who pounced on Redskins forward Kelvin Dodd and punched him in the head a couple of times whilst he lay covered up on the floor. The referee promptly kicked the Thunder defenceman out of the game, meaning the home sides best player, and therefore threat was nullified. The game opened up with both sides trading chances as tiredness set in. Chaplen went through on goal for the Thunder but a sliding dive from Owen Murphy diverted the puck off his stick and into the corner before he could take the shot. Chaplen went close again shortly afterwards and then David Coffey added to Sandersons highlight reel.
With just under two and a half minutes left, Thunder coach Darryl Morvan called a time out after Redskins Hardy was given a two minute minor. Despite the man advantage the Thunder resisted the temptation to pull their goalie and this decision was vindicated when Lockwood broke through for Streatham but had his shot saved by Woolf as the final buzzer sounded.
A good solid performance for Streatham who face Milton Keynes again this Sunday in the High Road Rink, Streatham at 6.45. Man of the match was unsurprisingly Redskins goalie Will Sanderson.
Chelmsford Warriors (away) 11/10/09: Warriors 12 - 3 Redskins
Streatham travelled to Essex to take on a Chelmsford Chieftains side that currently top the English National League. The Redskins gave their travelling supporters early reason to cheer after only 16 seconds, when Louis Lockwood dispossessed Danny Wright and then passed the puck to Peter Molnar who skated down the left wing and unleashed a fearsome slap shot in to the far top corner of the goal.
With ten minutes gone Roman Culik was unlucky to be sent to the penalty box after Chelmsford’s BT Williams two handed him in the head right in front of the referee. Both players were assessed high sticks. Two minutes later a shot from the point by Easton was saved by Sanderson in the Streatham goal but the rebound fell to Novak who finished well at the second attempt to equalise for Chelmsford.
Chelmsford were now in control of the game and with Hardy sat in the box serving a roughing penalty, the home side went close twice in quick succession. First a slap shot from Dzurko was saved by Sanderson then the hard working Darren Brown had a shot saved from the slot, chased down his own rebound but then was denied again by Sanderson.
Chelmsford finally took the lead with two minutes remaining in the period. Dzurko’s fanned pass deceived Sanderson who dived too early and the puck was fired in to the empty net by the unmarked Richard Whiting. The Redskins switched off again a minute later when Britton got tangled up behind his own net and the puck bounced out to Ross Brears who simply squared the puck to James Ayling to score giving Chelmsford a two goal cushion. As the buzzer went to end the first period BT Williams and Redskins goalie Sanderson exchanged words with Williams dropping the gloves only for Redskins forward Richard Hardy to step in. Unfortunately this did not stop Chieftains helmetless back up goalie Andy Moffatt skating in to the Redskins half of the ice attempting to goad Sanderson in to a fight for a minute or so.
The second period started with both teams 4 on 4 as referee Hayden assessed 2 plus 10 minute penalties for Sanderson, a 2 minute roughing penalty for Williams and a straight 10 minute misconduct for Moffatt. Streatham were shorthanded again two minutes later when Stevens was assessed a 2 minute roughing penalty. A long pass from defence found Richard Hardy on the far blue line and as he shot he was pulled down by a Chieftains defence man and he slid in to goalie Ben Clements grounding the goalie and himself. Both teams stood still but no whistle was blown and Louis Lockwood cheekily poked the puck in to the net. After lengthy discussion the goal was rightly given despite the bizarre circumstances.
If the Redskins fans thought a comeback was on the cards, their hopes were dashed when a brilliant shot by Sean Easton from the blue line flew past Sanderson into the top right hand corner of the net to make it 4-2. Molnar then went close for Streatham but Chelmsford cleared the zone quickly and Williams released Brown down the right wing and he squared to Whiting to make it 5-2.
Streatham attempted to get physical with the Chieftains and with bodies flying all over the Streatham defensive zone the home sides quick passing moves got the puck to Ross Brears all alone and he scored from close range with only seven minutes gone in the period. Molnar went through on goal again for Streatham but was brought down before he could shoot. The play went up the other end and the referee then decided to call Molnar for slashing much to the amazement of the visitors bench. Chelmsford punished the Redskins on the power play yet again, this time Whiting turned provider to Brown in an identical goal to the previous one.
The referee then called a 2 plus 10 minute penalty on Chelmsford’s Green after a clumsy hit from behind on Richard Hardy. Sean Easton also took a ten minute misconduct for contesting the decision. But the Redskins were starting to make sloppy mistakes and when more indecision in the defensive zone allowed Williams to score a gift of a goal, coach Barry Spours called a time out to try and restore order.
The third period started better for the Redskins when Molnar dispossessed the Chelmsford defence and skated down on Clements but saw his shot saved after just 30 seconds. Chelmsford then got a penalty when Williams was given 2 min for cross checking but the advantage was lost when Redskins Stevens flattened Chieftain Pavlus well away from the puck to earn an interference penalty.
Chelmsford were in control again and Aaron Connolly jinked his way through the Streatham defence and had his first shot saved only to score on the rebound with only five minutes gone in the period. With the game over as a contest, it was somewhat of a surprise when the volatile Williams decided to two hand Stevens across the back of the legs right in front of the watching referee. Clearly incensed, Williams then tried to chase Stevens round the ice and then attempted to spear him before tangling with the linesman trying to escort him to the penalty box. The referee took a dim view of this and gave Williams a 5 minute plus game for the incident then a 5 minute plus match penalty for refusing to leave the ice. A furious Chieftains bench remonstrated but in the end the home side were left with a ten minute shorthanded session to deal with.
The Redskins huffed and puffed but couldn’t take any advantage of the extra man. To add insult to injury Chelmsford scored through Danny Hammond, who ignored a flying stick from Streatham’s Richard Hardy to compose himself and deke past Sanderson. Hammond made it 11-2 shortly afterwards with the assist going to Easton and then he got his hat trick when Novak made a deft back hand pass to release him down the left hand side to score in the top corner and make it 12-2. The Redskins looked very much out of sorts but bizarrely scored a third when Lockwood scored from a Botting pass in the dying minutes.
Invicta Dynamos (home) 4/10/09: Redskins 2 - 8 Dynamos
Streatham faced the Invicta Dynamos on Sunday determined to exact revenge on a side that had beaten them convincingly a few weeks earlier.Coach Barry Spours handed debuts to Russell Stevens, Adrian Wheeler and Kelvin Dodd but still managed to only have a short bench due to injuries.
A noisy crowd greeted the teams on the ice and Streatham started brightly. It was the visitors however who scored first through former Streaham captain Joe Johnston. The home side struggled to keep pace with three strong lines Invicta iced. Minutes later Invicta increased their lead through the ever dangerous Andy Smith. With Invicta two goals ahead, it was a relief to the home support when top scorer Louis Lockwood pulled one back for the Redskins with only minutes to go. If the Redskins thought that this would put pressure on Invicta they were mistaken. With seconds remaining a stranded James Tanner in the Streatham goal managed to recover and make a spectacular dive and deny Invicta captain Karl Lennon.
The second period was poor for the home side as the visitors made their extra bodies count. Swede Johan Stenvall made it 3-1 and then Peter Vaisenan scored a brace to give the Dynamos a four goal cushion. Halfway through the game a big hit by Dodd grounded Invicta’s David Oliver and the former Romford defenceman was stretchered off the ice.
In the third period Streatham seemed to have run out of steam. Invicta extended their lead even further shortly afterwards when another Streatham old boy, this time Jack Tarczycki made it 6-1. The Redskins immediately replied through the energetic Lockwood to make it 6-2.
Any thoughts of a comeback were soon dashed when two goals in as many minutes gave the Dynamos both points. Nicky Lewis and Mark Williams were the scorers to finish off a battling Redskins side.
Spours was delighted with his goalie but frustrated at the current resources at his disposal. ‘This season we have exceptionally strong goal keeping in the shape of James Tanner and Will Sanderson and it is often difficult to choose between the two as to who should play in each game, this friendly rivalry drives both goalies on to up their game. I personally have been involved in hockey since 1978 and so have see some great goalies in my time and some great saves too, but one save in particular from James Tanner just blew me away.’
‘At the moment guys are averaging a stagger 25-30 minutes of playing time, and this also leaves them vulnerable to injury when the fatigue sets in. On the upside a small band of players forges a very strong sense of camaraderie and the bond between the players is exceptionally strong at this time. I do feel that once we have a full complement of players we will become a very difficult team to beat.’
Wightlink Raiders (home) 20/9/09: Redskins 2 - 5 Raiders
Streatham Redskins faced off against the Wightlink Raiders at the High Road rink, hoping to bounce back after last week’s defeat against Invicta Dynamos. The Redskins were without defence man David Carr due to an ankle injury but welcomed winger Richard Hardy back to their line up, along with goalie James Tanner. In front of a partisan home crowd, the Redskins had the best of the early exchanges but struggled to really test the Raiders goalie with any clear shots. The visitors gradually began to assert themselves and Dan Hughes and Jeremy Cornish both tested Tanner in the Redskins goal with a number of shots. It was the Redskins though who were first to break the deadlock when Louis Lockwood gathered the puck mid ice and rounded the Raiders defence with a textbook toe drag move before finishing high in to the top corner. The home support erupted and the home side responded with Peter Molnar going close shortly after. The Raiders equalised with five minutes to go in the period through their player coach Cornish, whose close range snap shot ripped in to the Streatham net. Cornish then incurred the wrath of the home crowd as he charged Redskins defence man Casimir Britton into the plexi glass causing it to smash. After a short break a replacement piece was found and the game resumed. The period ended without any further score.
The second period didn’t go well for the Redskins as they conceded three goals without reply. With both sides hitting penalty trouble courtesy of referee Rene Ross, Streatham struggled to clear their defensive zone and John Sarno coasted across the front of the net and finished smartly to give the visitors the lead. Jeremy Cornish got his second shortly afterwards and then Dan Hughes scored an excellent slap shot to put the visitors in full control.
Despite the Redskins trailing 4-1, they managed to come out on to the ice in the third period with a renewed enthusiasm. Much more composed on the puck and helped by a 2+2 minute penalty called on Wightlink’s Dan Scott for fighting, the Redskins should perhaps have pulled a couple of goals back but they struggled to find a way past the Raiders bustling short handed unit. The Raiders bounced back and extended their lead through Andy Robinson and this effectively killed the game. To their credit the Redskins kept going and were rewarded when in the closing minutes the impressive Molnar glided across the slot, dipped his shoulder then fired the puck in to the top of the net.
The game finished as a 5-2 loss for the Redskins and man of the match went to Streatham’s Louis Lockwood. Speaking after the game, coach Barry Spours was not too disheartened by the display:
‘We still have much work to do but we are definitely on the right track and I anticipate more in the weeks that follow. We have been somewhat unlucky in that our opening fixtures having seen us draw five particularly difficult opponents in our first six games of the season but as we learn from each encounter it can only make us stronger when we eventually face teams of the middle and lower part of the league later in the year we should be in full stride’.
Spours was also pleased with Richard Hardy’s debut for the Redskins:‘Richard Hardy linked up well on the first line with Peter Molnar and Louis Lockwood. Along with solid defence from Fred Carnegy and Ed Koral, I really feel that this line is coming into its own, and will be more than a match for many teams in the league’.
Haringey Greyhounds (away) 27/9/09: Greyhounds 3 - 5 Redskins
The Redskins travelled up to North London to take on London rivals Haringey Greyhounds without goalie James Tanner, Andy Sillitoe, Fred Carnegy and David Carr who has been ruled out for a month with ankle ligament damage.Backed by a noisy band of supporters the Redskins took charge from the start with Slovakian Peter Molnar going close early on but Saunders in the Haringey goal managed to claw the puck back off the line. Streatham put sustained pressure on the Haringey goal over the next few minutes and it was no surprise when Molnar picked up a loose rebound and slid puck into the net to give the Redskins the lead.
With ten minutes gone the home side created their first chance when Scott Beeson forced Redskins goalie Will Sanderson to make a leg pad save and then was unlucky when the rebound bobbled past him. Haringey stepped up the pressure and Gareth O'flaherty skated across the crease but could only shoot into Sanderson’s glove. Soon after Stuart Appleby held the puck up in the corner for Gary Dodds to dig it out then skate to the net only for Sanderson to make another save. Dodds got another chance after Lee Mercer set him up but once again couldn’t score. Streatham were under the cosh and when Dan Botting skated from behind his own net and played the puck straight to O’Flaherty, Sanderson was grateful that the shot went straight in to his body.
A lovely move by Streatham with the seconds ticking down saw Richard Hardy set up Liam Rasmussen whose shot from the right hand side ripped in to the net but was disallowed by the referee who judged it was after the end of period buzzer.
At the start of the second period Streatham were on the powerplay after Dave Richards was called for tripping but this was evened up after Josh Allam tripped Haringey’s Gary Dodds on the right wing. Streatham’s hard working winger Liam Rasmussen then crashed knee first into the boards after he was cyncically tripped by Dave Richards. Richards was given a penalty but Rasmussen played no further part in the game.
Streatham had another injury scare shortly afterwards when a trailing skate caught goalie Sanderson on the neck but thankfully it was just a graze.
The game started to get fiesty when former Redskin Perry Richardson went low on Dan Botting and flipped the Streatham forward in to the air. Shortly afterwards Redskins Richard Hardy and Haringey’s Lee Mercer went toe to toe and whilst Hardy got a couple of decent punches in , it was the bigger and stronger Mercer who got the better of the fight and the subsequent take down.
The Redskins took momentum from the fight with Molnar again creating space before passing to Chris Rasmussen whose first time shot squirmed between the Haringey goalies legs in to the net to make it 2-0 Redskins.
Haringey managed to get a goal back when a big scramble in front of the net, bobbled out to Chris Fox and he dropped his shoulder and fired high past a sprawling Sanderson.
Streatham were in no mood to let the home side back into the game and a point shot from Koral bounced kindly for the impressive Molnar who buried the puck from the slot in to the bottom right hand corner with only two minutes left to play.
The Redskins started the third period 3 – 1 up but had another injury problem when a slap shot by Nathan Webb hit Koral on the ankle. Molnar continued to cause Haringey problems and he coasted down the wing before setting Lockwood up only for the Saunders in the Haringey goal to make a great save. The Redskins were not to be denied and Lockwood turned provider as he passed from the left hand side on to the stick of the on rushing Hardy who scored with a slick first timer. Haringey changed their goalie with Tippett coming in for Saunders. Lockwood tested him straight away as he went through one on one but the goalie survived the early test.
With ten minutes gone Haringey scored their second goal when Liam Doyle skated down the right wing and got a lucky bounce off Koral’s skate before poking the puck past Sanderson in to the bottom left hand corner. With the home side in the ascendency they scored another goal straight afterwards when Stuart Appleby skated round the back of the Redskins net and managed to somehow squeeze the puck between Sanderson and his inside post from an acute angle.
With the Redskins looking nervous it looked as if Haringey would equalise but Molnar had other ideas. The Slovakian skated hard in to the Haringey zone and his shot narrowly went over the bar, however he raced behind the goal to pick up the puck and scored a brilliant wrap around goal to give the Redskins a 5-3 lead.
Haringey pulled their goalie in the last minute but didnt trouble Sanderson again. Streatham’s loud travelling support cheered loudly as the final buzzer went and coach Barry Spours was rightly pleased with his teams first points of the season.
