One-day courses (September to March)
The Centre offers
a wide variety of educational courses on topics such as:
Woodland mammals
and habitats
Insect life under
logs and leaf litter
Discovering
ancient woodland in autumn (fruits, berries and fungi)
All about Badgers
and exploring their environment
Study the social
history of Cudham village – with quiz and picnic in the park
Slide shows and
PowerPoint presentations on local flora, fauna and wildlife
Games and
activities based around the environment
Fees: £10 per person
(Minimum number 25 fee paying students).
Teachers free.
The
Darwin Trail
A three-day
residential course based around the life and works of Charles Darwin.
Cross-curricular activities include: local history, science,
biodiversity, mathematics, art, and map-reading skills.
Day One
Arrive Noon – Bring packed lunch
Introduction to the course and Charles Darwin
(by Centre managers)
Bees/Worms study activities
Free time to explore the Centre and grounds
Evening meal
Preparation for tomorrow’s walk:
Country Code
Risk assessment
Familiarisation with the ‘Darwin Trail’ walk and the
‘Down House’ activities. (by Centre managers)
Day Two
Breakfast
Walk to Down House (approx 1 hour)
(using map-reading
skills and following written
instructions)
Tour of Down House
in groups of 6-8
(complete worksheets partly at the House and
partly at Cudham Centre.
Picnic lunch and walk back to Centre
Free time
Evening meal
Complete worksheets
Camp-fire
Day Three
Breakfast
Small groups create their own ‘thinking path’
exhibition and discuss what they have learned
about Darwin and his life at Down House.
Lunch and depart.
Fees:
including accommodation, food and tuition is £85 per person
