On the morning of May 12, 2000 at approximately 5:20am the Night Heron pictured below was seen to fly in from the sea. At first the bird was flighty and moved around the marina before settling on the concrete blocks on the inner beach. The bird stayed for most of the day before flying to Sheepcote Valley where it was seen perched in a tree it then returned briefly to the Marina before flying East over Roedean. It then landed in a tree in a private garden at the top of Beacon Hill in Ovingdean. The bird remained here out of view from about 17.00hrs and was seen to fly off West at 21.05hrs.
