What experience? I have a
degree in Mathematics from St Hugh’s College, Oxford, where I was lucky
enough to be taught by one of the best tutors of mathematics, Dr Ida
Busbridge. Many of her former pupils have gone on to be Maths teachers. I also hold a Post Graduate Certificate in
Education. I was Head
of Mathematics at an independent girl’s secondary school in Oxford for many
years before becoming a private tutor. I have been working as a private tutor
for over eight years and in that time I have taught students from almost
every school in the Oxford area, both state and independent. My youngest
student has been 6 and my oldest 65! I have also
had the opportunity recently of working in our local primary school, both in
the classroom and with a group of able mathematicians. This has enabled me to become familiar
with the National Curriculum content at Primary level and in particular to
know what is required at Key Stage 2. For six years I
taught on a Maths week at one of the Oxford University Colleges,
where I was required to teach the elements of Further Maths to science
and maths students who were about to embark on their undergraduate degree. My husband
is a retired Chartered Surveyor, who does gardening and DIY while I do my
sums! We have two sons. The eldest is also a Maths teacher working
at a school in Wiltshire, having also taught in London and Bangkok. The
youngest is in TV production with an advertising company in London. They both
went to school locally, so as a parent I am familiar with the pressures of
the education system, both nationally and in Oxford. |
