The AA Independent Press Guide started
life as a supplement to Acid Angel Magazine, back in 1998. Since then, it has grown and grown, and now
over 2,000 print and internet magazines and publishers are listed from all over
the world. The one thing that hasn’t
expanded is the editorial team. That
is, it is still a one man operation, and it is physically impossible for this
one man to keep tabs on everything in this guide. Whilst I endeavour to keep The AA Independent Press Guide as
accurate and up-to-date as possible I just don’t have the time, energy or
finance necessary to constantly check and re-check each listing. Magazines and publishers come and go, just
like that. So, inevitably, some of the
magazines and publishers listed will no longer be operational. There will also be omissions in this guide:
magazines and publishers that aren’t listed.
You can help out, by making me aware of
any inaccuracies and omissions in this guide.
Just email me at aa-independent-press-guide@ntlworld.com
and let me know what you know. Then I
can let everyone else know too!
I hope you’ll consider making a donation
to help with the upkeep of this website.

Kiss Machine magazine is a foray into independent art, literary culture, and
political views. In an effort to highlight the surrealism inherent in
day-to-day life, each issue features visual art, fiction, articles and
interviews relating to each issue's two seemingly discordant themes, such as
bugs and small business (#1), elephants and the media (#2), hospitals and
aliens (#4) and cars and religion (#5). Edited by Emily Pohl-Weary and Paola
Poletto, the magazine showcases the work, politics and culture generated by
people who think for themselves.

In 1981, a group of
young people, who had been in North America for just over a decade, decided to
take the plunge and start the magazine they had always dreamed about as
students, at a time when books by Naipaul — let alone Narayan or Ngugi or
Soyinka — had to be ordered from publishers. The result was The Toronto South
Asian Review which helped entrench a generation of new writers, and was so
successful that it could never put the brakes on. TSAR Publications, then, came
naturally as a book-publishing, arms-length venture of the company, to publish
new Canadian and American (regardless of ethnic origin) as well as world
writing.
