Some operators seem to think that the peak season is in the middle of the summer holidays with customer numbers slowly building up to the peak and then slowly declining. Accordingly they put on special events during what they think will be their quiet season and advertise them heavily.
Trains are overcrowded, with people 'giving up' because they can't find a seat. People who do get on board have their day spoilt. Ironically the operator has spent good money getting a large number of people there just to cheese them off.
