Their Website :- The Welsh Highland Railway Project

Summary

An uninteresting run pulled by the most interesting engines. However now they've started to cross the Welsh highlands, they are starting to build what may be one of the best rides in the land.

Sites

Tiny 'platform & port-a-cabin' site next to Caernarfon Castle.

Large, but mainly empty site, at Dinas with a small museum.

Large, but also empty site at Waunfawr

Ride

Starts with unexciting ride, mainly flat, which follows a cycle path until Dinas.

It then heads inland to Waunfawr, but has not yet reached the mountainous parts yet.  There's meant to be a good view of Snowdon, but it was too wet when we were there.

Nice glimpses of the sea, and the castle looks good as you arrive back at Caernarfon.

A 2-6-2 + 2-6-2-NGG16 Garratt

Engines

Two large, narrow gauge, South African 2-6-2 + 2-6-2 NGG16 Garrett engines.

Rolling Stock

Purpose built, brand new coaches. They are wider than the Ffestiniog coaches.

Engine Shed

Situated at Dinas. I don't think you were allowed to look around.

Museum

Small museum with photo displays and a couple of engines at Dinas.

Shop

Cramped end of a port-a-cabin at Caernarfon, but a nice man who helps run the railway say's they'll be building a new shop soon.

Catering

None.

Public house next to Waunfawr

Toilets

Not tested.

Other Facilities

Great view of the castle !
