Llechwedd Slate Caverns at Blaenau FfestiniogThe inclined train takes you down deep underground to tour the mines. It was a little scary, but we had torches. It picks up from an even lower 'station'. |

The Great Orme Tramway, LlandudnoWhile we didn't ride (we took the cable car instead) this looked a fun way to travel up the Great Orme. The winding station, which drags the cable along a slot in the ground, is in the middle, so you have to change trams half way up. |

Bridgnorth Cliff RailwayBuilt in 1892, it travels up and down a 111ft Sandstone Cliff. Originally water powered like Lynmouth, it is now electric. |

The Cliff Railway, LynmouthA water powered cliff railway! It travels 862 feet, going up (or down) 500 feet - an inclination of 1:1.75. It's all over in under two minutes, but it's great fun nevertheless. Working as a pair, one fills with water at the top and the weight sends it down, pulling the other lighter one up. When at the bottom it slowly lets the water out so the other, now heaver one, drags it back up. |
