Tram No. 16 at Colyton

Tram No. 16 at Colyton

Summary

A lovely 'miniature' tramway on the track bed of the Seaton branch line.

Site

Main terminus at Seaton is purpose built, but the halt at Colyford and the station at Colyton all use as much of the old British Rail station as possible.

Ride

After many tight turns to get from the new Seaton Terminus to the old British Rail track bed, it's a straight line through Colyford, over a level crossing, to Colyton Station.  There are many passing places where you wait for other trams to pass.

Engines

All electric trams, which are 'slight shrunk' copies of the real thing.  Some are the real thing cut down the middle with a section cut out to fit them on the track.

Engine Shed

At Seaton - can only enter as part of a guided tour, which we did !

Museum

None.

Shop

Small corner of the ticket offices at Seaton and Colyton.  However a good range of tram oriented goodies.

Catering

Cafe at Colyton.  It was very nice having tea and biscuits on the station platform watching the trams come and go.

Toilets

Not tested.

Guide Book

Very nice.  Pictures of trams, both as they were and are now.  Good history.  Good track commentary.

Other Facilities

Seaton is a typical English sea side town with all that entails !  Beach is pebbly.
