The Disastrous Visit of May 2001

On the first Thursday of May every year, my school closes so adults can vote at one election or other.  In May 2001, Daddy took the day off work so we could all go to Legoland.  We though it would be quiet.

Unfortunately hundreds of other families had the same idea.  We had to queue for and hour and a quarter just to buy our ticket and get in.  The people at Legoland were clearly unprepared.  It was chaos.  Very few ticket booths were open.  One man tried to organise queues but soon gave up, so no clear lines formed.  This meant people pushed in and others got upset.  When new booths did eventually open, their lights didn't come on to show.  When we finally got in, of course there were queues for all the rides.

Mummy and Daddy say if they ever do that again, they'll buy their tickets in advance.

When we went in April 2002, we went on a normal Saturday.  It was far quieter!
