Brooklands sits just inside the M25. It's a rather tatty museum with lots of interesting old cars and airplanes. We started off in a small cinema seeing a short film about how it was built. They then showed the old cars which were raced there, and the airplanes which were built there. We then looked at lots of old cars. Nearly all of them were over 50 years old, but I saw a Formula 1 racing car like the ones daddy watches on the television. We then looked at lots of old airplanes engines (which was boring) at bits of aircraft (which was OK) and past some old fire engines (which were great !). We then had a walk on the banking where they used to race cars. We had a race and I won ! Finally we saw some whole aircraft. I went on board a Vickers Viscount and Daddy sat inside a Harrier Jump Jet. We also saw an old Wellington. It wasn't like the boot you put on your feet, but a big airplane which had crashed in Loch Ness.
Site : Tatty Contents : Great ! Toilets : Being re-decorated - functional. Cafe : Good - Talked to nice lady. Shop : Good - got a vintage car and a 2CV pencil sharpener. Crowds : Despite being half term, and a full car park, we rarely bumped into other people. Best Bit : Going on a real aircraft Worst Bit : The pressure chamber was dark and scary.
Dad's Comment : Varied enough to keep youngsters interested |
