The National Space Centre is in the middle of a run down part of Leicester. It's mainly a single story building but has a huge tower supporting a giant bubble which contains two real space rockets. There was loads of parking, though we had to queue for a while to get in. We got our time for the space theatre show and explored the "Into Space" area about men and women going into space. I liked the space toilet. It was then time to see the space theatre show which was about how big space was. It was shown on a big wrap around screen. I liked the dancing cave man. We then explored the other areas which were "Exploring the Universe", "The Planets", "Orbiting Earth" and "Space Now". We'd left the best bit until last - the Space Tower. We took the lift to the top which was by the top of the two real rockets they had. We then walked down. Each level had things to see. At the very bottom, underneath the rocket engines, I had a drink and a biscuit.
Building : Modern purpose built, with huge inflatable bubble to house their two real rockets. Contents : Good Toilets : Good Cafe : Two, both small, the best being under the rockets Shop : One, medium - mixture of trinkets and serious books, but I didn't get anything. Guide Book : A general book on the same themes, but doesn't really describe the displays. Crowds : Quite crowded, but thanks to roomy corridors and large viewing areas it didn't spoil it too much. Best Bit : The huge rockets Worst Bit : Loosing Daddy. We forgot to tell him we were going for a drink.
Dad's Comment : It's all very impressing, but do kids just take space travel for granted these days ? |
