Normal start time is 6pm for some practice, with the game commencing at about 6:45. As we usually manage to get 12-15 participants, most weeks are friendly practice games amongst ourselves. This often means having 3 teams with one batting and two fielding at a time - so plenty of exercise!

Our pitch is an un-marked patch in Regent's Park, nearest tubes Great Portland Street (Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City lines) and Camden Town (Northern Line). The pitch where we have been playing since 1987 has been re-seeded this year (2003), so we have moved about 100 yards north-east (see map).

Directions from Great Portland Street tube: Cross Marylebone Road and Albany Street, walk west along Marylebone Road and turn right down Park Square East. Enter the park and walk through the English Gardens until you hit Broad Walk, turning right along it. Cross the zebra and continue along Broad Walk until you reach the old water-fountain/monument. Walk another ten yards and turn right down the tree-lined path. Our pitch should be somewhere to the left of this path.

Directions from Camden Town tube: Cross Camden High Street and walk all the way up Parkway and straight-on along Gloucester Gate. Cross Outer Circle at the pelican, and enter the park, taking the path to the left of the playground towards the centre of the park. Our pitch should be to the right of this path, before you reach the crossroads.

It may be that we are unable to use this exact spot every week, but we should be somewhere between Broad Walk and Gloucester Gate

Parking may no longer be available around the Outer Circle so it may be best to park in Camden itself. There is a small charge before 6:30pm and it's free after that time. The area is outside the congestion charging zone.

We usually finish at about 8pm and almost always have a drink in The Spread Eagle, a Young's public house on Parkway (see map), followed by a pizza in Parkway Pizzeria opposite the pub.

Picnics

We normally have a couple of picnics per year, weather permitting. People usually bring something to eat themselves and something to share in return for other goodies, and the same applies to drinks. There are usually enough people to give two large teams, so the softball isn't too energetic while you digest your picnic.
