By tackling addiction through a 12 Step substance abuse treatment programme RAPt believes it can make a major contribution to reducing crime. CARAT (Counselling, Assessment, Referral, Advice & Throughcare) is a prison acronym invented by the Home Office to describe the general, low level services offered in English prisons. The aim is that every prisoner should be assessed by a drug worker within five days of entering prison. RAPt works in conjunction with NACRO to deliver
Prison based 12 Step programmes
RAPt currently has nine programmes in nine prisons: seven in adult male establishments, one in a female establishment and one in a male young offenders institute. Between them they offer treatment places to more than 350 clients at any one time with over 150 spaces on the intensive, primary phase of treatment.

Addaction - provide a broad range of substance misuse services for adults in Bedfordshire, such as
Care Co-ordination Team - A dedicated support service including assessment, planning a care package, help to access treatment and support with a range of ‘life’ issues - for adults & young people.
Shared Care - Primary care team with prescribing service for users who want a less intensive level of support. Includes access to a specialist GP and links into GPs in the community with support from specialist nurses.

Bridgegate is an independent project offering confidential advice, information, counseling and support to people who have concerns about drug use, and offers a professional service to drug users, anyone with drug-related concerns and professional organisations in the Peterborough and Fenland area.
Help ranges from education and training, to complementary therapies and community work, and is provided in person at their premises and/or by phone, there is also a 1:1 drop-in needle exchange at most locations. The service Bridgegate offers is in the main free at point of delivery but there are some charges for services such as drug testing and court reports.
