Staines Lammas 5 -5 Onslow

A hockey score but I don’t think anybody was optimistic about this match. A point well earned, maybe three lost, overall probably a fair result. Played at a furious pace Onslow opened with a 20 yard super strike from Josh Cripps, unstoppable. Unfortunately an equaliser made it 1 : 1. In the 18th minute a great cross from Adam Proctor was cleverly flicked in by Max Blackmore, again within minutes another equaliser from the nifty Lammas winger. With Lammas smelling blood and in pursuit of a third, Onslow struck again. Against the run of play, Lammas lost the ball in Onslow’s penalty box. The trouble being they probably had nine players upfield. A long ball out saw Max Blackmore beat two defenders to the ball and toe poke past their keeper. Half time saw both keepers replaced with injuries. Another goal by Max Blackmore (a contender for goal of the season) and a slot home from Josh Cripps after their goalie spilled the ball gave Onslow a goal cushion. Two goals late by Staines earned them the draw. Both sets of supporters applauded the players off; it was very entertaining, even the referee said so!

Onslow 3 – 0 Byfleet Reds

After being beaten 6 -2 by the same team in the cup last week none of the supporters were very optimistic about this one. Welcome back to Gene Ricketts in defence after missing the last few games with injury but unfortunately Morgan Price was ruled out with flu. The game started at a furious pace and Onslow were sublime. The away team couldn’t deal with the home teams one touch, pass and move football. The lead came from Josh Cripps (15 mins) who slotted home but the second goal was a 25 yarder from an acute angle by Chris Main ( 21 mins), a contender for goal of the season. Game over, surely not and the away team responded really well. Using their effective wing play seemed to be repelled this week. Onslow defended stoutly, not an inch of space conceded. The rest of the half was played mostly in the home teams half. 2:0 at half time, we ( the supporters) were still feeling it wasn’t over. Predictably the away team showed even more effort and were starting to dominate the match. Corners were abundant but Onslow defended well. Last ditch tackles were made and suddenly against the run of play the game was decided. A ball out of defence caught the away team too far up field. Max Blackmore (59 mins) used his speed to run through and pass the ball passed the keeper. The best performance by Onslow this season, everybody was alive to the task. The team seemed very solid and organised. With 11 points we are moving closer to mid table and proving we can mix it with the better teams.

Onslow 5- 1 Rowledge

A relegation battle which saw Onslow ease their problems and slightly pull away from the danger zone with a good win. A chess match pursued and with both teams negating each other, it looked like we were in for a cagey encounter. It was a free kick which broke the deadlock and in the twenty minutes a foul on the striker saw Jake Wanstall step up and score a marvellous strike from a very acute angle. Then out of the blue a looping ball saw Max Blackmore head in from 18 yards, a good opportunists goal!
Minutes later Eugene Ricketts went off injured for Scott to come on and play a fine game at the back. Just before half time the busy Max Blackmore sent in a perfect cross for Ben Glazier to top in. The second half started and Rowledge kept battling but Onslow looked home and dry. On 55 minutes the game was put further out of reach for Rowledge when Jake Wanstall prodded in at close range. The linesman thought it was offside but the referee overruled him. With 5 minutes to go Rowledge scored a fantastic long range shot but it was all too late. With a couple of minutes to go Max Blackmore added another and inflicted more pain on the away team. In the end an easy victory, keep up the good work!

Sunday 5th November 2006:

Woking Meteors 3 - 6 Onslow

First win of the season and it came rather easily. Onslow took the lead early on when a poor strike fell at the feet of Jake Wanstall to slot in from three yards. Onslow seemed to find lots of space, particularly down the flanks and could have been 3 or 4 nil up before Woking equalised. James Pryce called for an easy ball and somebody didn’t hear it, it ended up in the net! Onslow took the lead on 23 minutes with a superb 25 yard strike from Adam Proctor. A contender for goal of the season, the boys were winning all the tackles and really took a grip of the game. A third goal looked certain and it came on 32 minutes when an 18 yard shot by Josh Cripps took a wicked deflection to give the away team a very healthy half time lead.

All this good play in recent weeks has ended without a result so still apprehensive as we started the second half. Woking were motivated as expected and scored a quick goal, here we go again! Not the case this week, a second half hat trick by Max Blackmore gave Onslow a comfortable win. Woking got a late consolation goal but by this time the away team were playing in first gear. More performances like the last 3 games and a bit of luck may see us climb out of the relegation zone. Well done boys!

St.Francis 3- 2 Onslow

Arriving two minutes late I was shocked to hear we were 1-0 down. The ‘keep it tight’ philosophy had obviously not been adhered to. Again as in the previous couple of matches Onslow played some very good football and competed very well, but they aren’t having much luck lately. After dominating the next 25 minutes a free kick outside the box was brilliantly executed from Chris Maine and a superb 20 yard strike from Adam proctor on 30 minutes gave Onslow the lead. With a minute to half time St. Francis also scored a long range shot which was unstoppable.

The second half started and it was all Onslow but the game was lost by a freak goal. The St. Francis mid- fielder collected the ball inside his own penalty area and ran the whole length of the pitch, unchallenged to slot home. A great run but someone should have made a challenge. So far our first ever defeat by our rivals, keep trying Onslow I’m sure it will happen!

Onslow 1 -2 Meadow Sports

Meadow unbeaten this season left the game with 3 points and Onslow still looking for a point, deserved at least a draw.
I can only remember two shirts on target all game for Meadow and unfortunately they both went in. Meadows’ first goal came on the stoke of half time and no sooner had they scored when the referee blew the whistle for the mid stage. The goal came in the 41st minute, 6 minutes into extra time. Perhaps like Chelsea yesterday we had some serious concussions! Anyway the second half was all Onslow and they were rewarded with an own goal when the Meadow keeper carried a shot over the line. Onslow tried to win the match but with two minutes left Meadow scored from outside on the right wing with a rasping shot. Hard luck Onslow, keep playing like this and the win will come.

Staines 5 -2 Onslow

A tough game was in prospect against a top team in Staines. Onslow started very well and were a very even opponent for the first half. After Onslow’s poor start to the season they seemed to be far more competitive and played with more desire than in previous games. Staines took the lead after fifteen minutes but Onslow were awarded a stonewall penalty just five minutes later for a handball, Sam Trowbridge struck a beauty. Both sides kept peppering the goal and many chances went a miss, just before half time Staines took the lead, quite undeservedly. The second half saw much of the same with neither side budging an inch., again both sides could have scored a couple each. The third goal came and Onslow then looked defeated. Staines scored another two making it 5 -1 before a late consolation goal from Max Blackmore. Whilst the boys lost today we saw some encouraging signs. Let’s hope we get three points on the table soon!
