Wednesday 22nd June 2005, Emmanuel Church, at 7.30 pm
Stoughton Community Association (SCA) invites all residents to a public meeting on 22nd June where ideas for solutions to Stoughton’s traffic problems will be discussed. There will be a presentation of highlights of a Traffic Report that is to be submitted at the next meeting of the Guildford Local Committee. The report will illustrate many of the problems and suggest a number of possible recommendations. Every problem identified by residents will be considered and included in the report, together with all of their suggested solutions.
The Guildford Local Committee (a partnership of 10 Guildford Borough Councillors and 10 Surrey County Councillors) hold their next committee meeting on 21st July, which will take place in public at Emmanuel Church. The committee discuss and plan for improvements to individual areas in and around Guildford. As Surrey County Council is responsible for all roads and streets in Guildford, traffic and its many problems are perhaps the area where the Local Committee can make the greatest difference.
Back in November 2004, SCA promoted and instigated a series of public meetings towards the development of a Stoughton Community Action Plan. At the first meeting, attendees voted the two most important issues for the community to be the many traffic problems and the proposed Stoughton Community Centre, to be built in QE Park. Work has proceeded in these two areas and it is planned that other issues will also be explored and developed. The Stoughton Community Action Plan offers residents a unique opportunity to have their voices heard about issues of their concern and to participate in the recommendations and proposed solutions for improvements to the area.
At a public meeting on 28th April, organised by the Police and the Safer Guildford Partnership, residents chose speeding and anti-social behaviour as their top priorities. There will be further Stoughton Neighbourhood Panel meetings on the 7th July and 6th October.
We look forward to receiving your opinions and ideas at Emmanuel Church on the 22nd June.
Please print copies of this invitation or the poster below and tell as many of your neighbours as possible about the meeting. The more people attending, the more the meeting and the report will be able to achieve.
