How can I help with the Community Centre?

If you can help, please contact SCCP Chair Maureen Bell (27 Bryanstone Ave, GU2 9UN, Tel: 01483 570275).

SCCP is the part of the SCA trying to build a community centre.  It is most likely that a separate Community Centre Management Committee will be established as a sub-committee of the SCA to actually run the community centre.

There are therefore two types of slightly overlapping tasks and roles (a) to build the community centre and (b) to run it.

In May 2002, many volunteers came forward to help run and use the community centre.  Unfortunately these kind people have not had much to do because of the long delay in providing the building, and so the committee that was elected has since concentrated on difficult negotiations between QE Park developers, GBC planning department and GBC legal.

Help is needed to complete a formal business plan.  A business plan has not been fully completed because the developers have not given any indication of the actual costs for building and fitting out above their obligation to provide a shell of 390sqm.  See SCCP funding page for details of funding and grants.

Anyone with experience of setting up or running a community centre is very welcome to offer advice and/or get involved.

  1. Club and activity organisers

  2. Completion of Business Plan

  3. Fundraising secretary

  4. Fundraisers and fundraising ideas

  5. Grant applications (see SCCP funding page)

  6. Community Centre Accounts (Treasurer)

  7. Bookings secretary

Some of the above will be paid roles for which training will be organised prior to opening the community centre.
