Most new planning applications in Stoughton are "garden grabbing" because there are so few places left to be developed.  See the SCA ~ Planning Home Page.

Stoughton Community Association is against "garden grabbing" for the following reasons:

  • Over-development - Stoughton is already the densest population in Guildford, and building in our back gardens just increases that.

  • Traffic problems - Guildford has many traffic problems and Stoughton has examples of many.  These have been documented in Stoughton Traffic Issues

  • Gardens are classified as brown-field sites and are therefore planning treats them same as existing buildings.

What can be done?

  • Talk to your neighbours and explain why you are against this.  Tell them about this web-site.

  • Object to all housing developments in North Guildford - use the guidelines explained here in Successfully Objecting to Planning Applications.

  • Read Save Our Gardens Campaign.

  • Tell the council what you want instead.  More open space?  Parking?

  • Complain to your councillor about GBC planning policies.  Tories and Lib-Dems campaigned to stop garden-grabbing, but what are they doing about it?

This is a political issue?  All the parties wnat to stop 'garden grabbing'.  They know residents don't like it.  But what are the polititians doing about it?
