Dear
Resident |
May 2009 #1
|
|
Long time no speak! Apologies for
the recent silence, but don't worry your Community
Association is still alive. Not a lot has been
happening lately and committee members have been
concentrating on other things leaving our hard working
councillors to handle local issues, and then lots all at
once.
In case you hadn't heard,
our councillor Pauline Searle is mayor for this year.

mayor has an interest.
Please print off a few
copies of this newsletter and give to your neighbours.

Grange Road
Consultation
You will remember that
Surrey County Council Highways Department carried out a
survey of the problems in Grange Road by consulting with
over 3,000 residents between December and January.
About 8% responded.
Highways then submitted a
report to the Surrey County Council Local Committee for
Guildford who met in March, where the results were
discussed and a recommended option agreed on.
The majority of the
surveys returned showed a clear preference for parking
restrictions at the southern end of Grange Road (option
1). The actual scheme has yet to be designed and
there have been no decisions made about what type of
restrictions may be implemented despite what you may
have read in the local press. There will be further
consultation with residents who would be directly
affected.
Below are extracts from
the Highways report.
|
[The report] recommends
promotion of a new Monday to
Friday 8.00am to 6.00pm
waiting restriction in
Grange Road. This would
remove parking at times when
the problem is most widely
perceived to occur, while
allowing residents to park
at other times. This option
would minimise impact on the
local community. It is
recommended to review the
problem again one year
following implementation,
with a view to extending the
restriction to at-any-time
if necessary.
It further recommends
working closely with GBC’s
parking team to ensure
targeted and sustain
enforcement is applied to
the new parking
restrictions. This would
ensure that the new
restrictions have the
desired effect, and also
provide reassurance to local
residents.
Finally, it recommends that
the suggestion for a new
one-way system be ruled out
formally. The impact on the
26/27 bus service, the
displaced traffic onto
Johnston Walk, Tylehost and
Railton Road, and the length
of the diversion for
residents, would all have a
detrimental impact on the
quality of life for many
residents of Stoughton.
What Happens Next?
The scheme will be developed
in detail, and if required
further local consultation
will take place.
Major maintenance of Grange
Road was deferred from
2008/09 to 2009/10, partly
to enable the feasibility of
this project to be
considered, and partly
because of the gas main
replacement in the area.
If this project proceeds to
implementation, the
intention would be to carry
out the maintenance and
improvement elements
simultaneously to minimise
disruption. |
|
|
Any scheme will have a
direct effect on some residents. Our Councillors
have told SCA they wish to reassure residents they will
be working closely with Highways to ensure any planned
changes will take any concerns and views into account
before a final decision on any changes are made.
If you have any questions
or concerns, please contact your
councillors or

Stoughton
Community Facility
|
 |
|
The building is nearing
completion. The above picture is of the building
next door to Budgens in QE Park, superimposed over an
original drawing from one of the
developers newsletters back in March 2003!
The current developers
are marketing the ground floor as retails units and the
top two floors for community use. SCA understands
that Guildford Borough Council has asked the developers
to advertise for community groups to run the facility,
but as usual no one knows if or when this may happen. In the meantime
SCA would like to hear from anyone who is interested in
working with us.
SCA still have concerns
whether it can be a viable and continue to ask for
details on a lease, sound proofing, estimated running
costs etc. The developers want to finish
construction before they do anything else, and we fear
they will waste money by finishing the interior.
We would prefer they wait until the tenants have been
decided or agree a sum of money for the tenants to use.
