At the public exhibitions advertised in our last newsletter held on Friday and Saturday, there were posters on 'other suggestions'.  Nick Healey, SCC Highways, has kindly provided a copy of these to put on our web-site.

Westborough Allotments

The Westborough, Broadacres and District Residents Association (WBDRA) and WASHA are still campaigning to prevent Guildford Borough Council proceeding with their plan to build houses on the allotments.  The fight has been building up over the years since GBC announced their plan back on 2001 as part of the new Local Plan and again as part of the recent Site Allocation process.  Despite the Site Allocation consultation not being complete, the GBC Environment And Housing Committee have put this back on the agenda for their meeting on Tuesday 16th December!  Just because this is GBC owned land.

Please send an email TODAY.

"I wish to express my extreme concern that the Westborough Allotment site still appears on the Committee's agenda to be considered for Housing.

This flies in the face of public opinion and I request that this site be immediately removed from the agenda.

As you will be aware there was an on-line petition on the Prime Minister's website earlier this year saying NO to Housing on the Allotment Site - this generated 550 signatures - GBC replied to 10 Downing Street that the site was part of a forthcoming public consultation.

We have had that consultation - the Site Allocations Consultation - which attracted over 260 formal replies saying keep the site as Allotments. This was one of highest polling items in the Consultation exercise and the result clearly reflects public support for keeping the site for Allotment use only.

Local residents have had their say and it is time GBC took notice of our wishes and respected local democracy."
