FW: Grange Road Gas Works Update (Aug08) - attachment Grange Road Roadworks to OverRun

Dear Residents,

This email is to let you know some very bad news about the overrun of the gas works being carried out by Southern Gas Networks (SGN) in Grange Road.  Our local Councillors  and Community Association representatives will be meeting with SGN and Surrey County Council shortly to discover the cause and find out what can be done and we will let you know.

I am sure you are aware this news doesn’t just affect residents of Grange Road, but also users of the 26/27 Arriva bus services, local businesses and anyone else who has to put up with the traffic congestion in  Stoughton.

If you have any views or suggestions, please email committee@stoughtonca.org

Dear All,

A number of updates:
=======================================
Ongoing Gas Works

We met Southern Gas Networks (SGN) yesterday to discuss progress with the works in Grange Road.  SGN estimate that there is a further 3-4 months of work to do, which could delay completion to the end of the year.  The programme is approximately as follows:

1)  By the time school term starts the works will be clear of Northmead School entrance.  The one-way system will operate between Northmead School and the Stoughton Road crossroads.  North of Northmead School Grange Road will be two-way.
2)  During September and October, SGN will work southwards towards Stoughton Road crossroads.
3)  There are significant works to do at the Stoughton Road crossroads itself, to connect the new main running down Grange Road to existing mains in Stoughton Road - most of these works will be managed using the existing permanent traffic signals - however there is approximately 1 week's work to cross the junction itself, which will be managed under temporary 4-way traffic signals - this latter element is by far the most disruptive, and so is programmed for half term.
4)  After half-term, there is a further 150m long section of main to lay in Grange Road, in the section between Harts Gardens and Railton Road - this will be done using temporary two-way traffic signals.
5)  Again after half term, there will be works in side roads adjoining Grange Road.

We have asked SGN to deploy additional resources to bring forwards (4) and (5).  This will depend on whether it is safe and practicable to have more than one work-site in the same stretch of road, and will also depend on availability of resources.

SGN have agreed to letter drop all residents in the affected area to update them on progress.

I am sorry that these works have overrun so drastically.  We are working with SGN to minimise the overrun, and to minimise the likely impact.
=======================================
Grange Road Feasibility Study

I had booked traffic surveys for October - however these will now be delayed to enable the gas works to clear and everything settle back to normal.

In spite of this, I will be pressing ahead with option appraisal and preparation for the public consultation.  You may well see me out in Grange Road over the next month or so with my drawings and measuring wheel...  We are still aiming to stick to the original timetable for the study as closely as possible, with public consultation completed in time to report to Committee in December.  The traffic surveys will not be completed in time for Committee, and therefore will be used as a reality check early in the detailed design stage in the New Year.  We may well report back to Committee in March 2009 once the traffic surveys results are known.
